Remember to stay on track and focused

Post by carld »

There was a recent thread that was locked down that after I read it, I found my self wondering how can so much time be spent on statistics. No wonder we come down with this sh*t...There is a place for that and I will leave that to men better suited and more educated then me for that. For all I care, that's someone else's gig...This is what I do know going on 2 years and maybe longer because my first warning came back in November of 2002 before the birth of my first child. I thought it was stress having to piss every hour for a month and then it stopped. Now looking back on it...That's exactly what it was. The disorder was further fuelled by anxiety and stress. Very ironic to me that old school uros were right after all. "It's all in our heads". This is one of the many causes in my opinion and looking back at my history of anxiety.

I have come to understand CP/CPPS very well, it's my disorder, all mine :!: . It is a stress disorder that has a constellation of circumstances that leaves men with a symptom complex that is wide and different for all men. I don't want to get caught up in what works for all men, because nothing can be concrete for sure, but I know what has helped me and I don't need to go into that because my many posts and signature explains that. What I want all of you men to know that come here for help and to discuss things that have worked and not worked is that getting well first starts with respect and care to yourself as a man. To let go of the core of our maleness that this disorder attacks. That you can overcome almost anything if you have the right mind set and determination to get well. To let go and except the card that has been dealt. For all of us...the card is a great warning to make permanent changes in our mental and physical well-being. Having a positive mental disposition can be a cliché and irritating to read and listen to. But that is all I have...without it there is no recovery for my CP/CPPS. Time and all the work I have done have put me in a very good recovery and I want all of you new members to know that with time and work, you will have your life back and a better perspective and appreciation for all things.

As far as treatments...I'm a believer in SP, particularly the controlling anxiety and the fact that almost all of it is free and harmless. Unless you have long nails and cut your bum...I have had no problems doing it carefully, respectfully and with desire for results, which can further increase your chances of recovery. I'm a person who lives with CP/CPPS but I'm not, nor will I ever be...a sufferer of CP/CPPS.

Regards, Carl...

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I really like what you posted and totally agree that once you accept what you have, make peace with it and realize that you can get better if you work at it and have patience, you will. I think I have turned a corner in this area and I'm doing pretty good right now. This is definitely stress and anxiety related. As you can tell from my pasts posts I was pretty shaken up with the onset of this and didn't know where to turn, as most of us were. I diagnosed myself with IC and was just waiting for the pain to start and end up in the hospital like the women from the IC network and I couldn't move forward with anything else in my life. I actually felt some relief finding out I have Prostatitis/CPPS instead. I finally just told myself that if it does come on all of a sudden or get worse then I am going to regret wasting any good days I could of had. I had a crazy experience too. A really good friend of mine who is a nurse got tired of seeing me so worried and telling her how bad things could get. So she introduced me to a friend of hers who had her bladder removed and is living a totally productive life and is married and pretty hot too guys. I guess that would be the worst that could happen if I had a really bad case of IC and bladder falling apart. As CRAZY as that may sound it woke me up. I kind of laughed at myself and felt stupid for losing it like I did. Here she is happier than me with a bag on her hip. I guess what I realized is just to get on living and make the best of it. I had a lot of people tell me at work and some friends that my attitude has really changed and I was kind of tripping and seemed depressed. So this last couple weeks just changed mindset, been more positive and optimistic and just happy to have a good day with not too much discomfort. I have felt so much better since making peace with this and just believing I will get better (today was great). Its funny some of the little things at work and things people used to do don't even bother me, I'm just so happy to not be pissing every hr. I know there will be more challenges and setbacks ahead but not so afraid and learning how to cope with issues I have had for a while. I was always trying to do way too much. Not drinking as much as I used to either which may have added to some anxiety and personal issues. Now just one day at a time! If things act up again I know where to come for help -Wouldn't be where I am with the board guys and it is really therapeutic to chat and get stuff off my mind sometimes. Keep pushing forward and take it easy.

Hope this post didn't sound too crazy
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!
