It had occurred to me that if this were a self perpetuating thing, and we just need something to break the cycle. I was starting to think pain killers could play a more vital role than just masking pain. I know some people think that there pain comes from some kind of habitual learned tension. I think this doesnt apply to me. I think my tension comes from there being something wrong that has yet to be discovered. So I have been at somewhat of a low point emotionally lately and I got desperate and got a doc to give me some valium and pain meds temporarily. I take one of each together and I feel a lot better physically and emotionally. I would say they raise my quality of life about 3 points on a 10 point scale (from about 0 to 3). I am not trying to get into my story at the moment, and just want to stick to the topic.
Lets say that someone had a initial injury that caused the initial pain, the injury is solved, but the pain is self perpetuating. Shouldnt pain killers break the cycle or at least help to break it?

i try to just take my pain meds in the evening when things are worse and I notice the next day I can often feel much better.I always thought it was due to the pain meds allowing me to relax the muscles without me knowing due to breaking my pain cycle
maybe there is something else in codeine that does me good even though I know over doing it can be bad for mast cells

Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Okay it has been a month. I somewhat of a nervous breakdown a month ago and got the meds. So I have nothing but good news since. I feel pretty good. Just about everything is going good in my life. I might just be the happiest I have been since I first had the condition. When things get bad, I pop one 5mg valium and one vicoden and I am just fine. I have not been weight lifting at all though. I didn't think I could reach happiness without lifting but its amazing how good I feel. I am starting to dress better and have better hygiene as well. I think its about time I go on a date. I think the big change has come from my overall pain level for the month being very much lower than ever before.
So I have been taking 1 of each of those pills 4 times a week. I take nothing on my days off work and still feel good. I am not thinking I found a cure because of the drugs but my overall quality of life is greatly improved so far. I think those pills in combination work much better than either one apart. It is low doses of each, so I think it is ok. O yea, I take 2 Aleve (naproxen) with them as well.
