After five months, I continue to make progress with my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and feel I'm at 80-85% normal. I had reached a point in early November in which the condition had finally become secondary, although I maintained my daily therapy.
On November 13, I woke up in the morning with an upset stomach and assumed I had a stomach virus as I experienced diarrhoea, severe cramping and a minor fever. While the diarrhoea stopped after several days, the cramping and fever did not. On the Monday before Thanksgiving I went to my doc who diagnosed me with diverticulitis, and placed me on Flagyl and Levaquin (normal therapy). Within two days my fever had broken and my appetite returned although I was required to eat very lightly which I have done through this weekend.
Here's the interesting event. From the time I became ill until Thanksgiving day, my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome was completely gone. Luckily my symptoms are limited to a dull pain in the rectum around my coccyx, but for a week there was no pain/no muscle spasm. The muscle spasm has slowly begun to return, and now that I'm pretty much over the diverticulitis I will get back to my daily therapy of relaxation, stretching and exercise.
I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar type event. This was my first episode with diverticulitis, and I will be greatly focused on adding fiber to my diet and reducing my fat intake.
Diverticulitis is extremely painful and 25% of those who experience it eventually require surgery. My suggestion to all is to change your diets now....the cramping I experience was incredibly painful.
