Antihistamines

Post by calguy »

was going to try some and if the back of box says "do not take if being treated for enlarged prostate" should I stay away from these? Was going to try claritan or Tavist. Tavist contains "clemastine fumarate". Webslave put out some good info on this and staying away from decongestants but posts were a little old so just wanted to find out if there is any new advice.
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!

Tavist and Claritin are not decongestants, just antihistamines. They are ok. May cause slight symptom increase at first (due to anticholinergic or drying effect).

Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

antihistamines

Webslave the anticholinergic effect is not good for my prostititus? Just having discussion with some members about vesciare which was prescribed to me to stop frequency but cause me to retain urine and side effects awfull. Alpha blockers seem to be what most of you are taking, I thought these would make me go even more. Probably sounds stupid but was actually thinking about antihistamines to slow down frequency just a little.lol Also alpha blockers seem to help in other ways from what I've read so may give them a try. Thanks again and Happy Holidays!

The only antihistamine I touch is Allegra (fexofenadine). I used Seldane (Terfenadine) before they too it off the market.
Age: 32 | Symptoms: Twingy pain/muscle spasms in groin area (gone), tingling sensation at tip of penis (has resolved as of now), urinary frequency (resolved as of now), thicker/decreased amount of semen (resolved as of now). Makes better: Stretching, Relaxing pelvic muscles, moment to moment relaxation, not sitting with legs crossed, Elavil, quercetin. Makes worse: Sitting, stress, more than one orgasm/day, constipation, manual labour

I use nasacort. It's a corticosteroid which is Ok for me.

I would stay clear away from over active bladder meds. They are horrible for CP/CPPS. Remember you are dealing with neurogenic inflammation/ irritation which is all part of pelvic myoneuropathy.

Uroxatral that you are wondering about is an alpha blocker and will help relax the smoothe muscle of the bladder neck and prostate so you can empty out your bladder. I was on it for many months and stopped in July of 07. You need to try it for at least 3 months to see if you are getting any theraputic effects from this. My personal experience is since we have similar symptoms. No pain except burning discomfort and more LUTS symptoms. My feeling is when the prostate or nerves are inflamed, it tends to give us the feeling of having to pass urine, even though we don't really need to. It's part of the symptom complex of CP/CPPS for many of us.

If you choose to go on Uroxatral, take it at night before you go to bed and you may have an increase in head congestion and reduced ejaculation and weaker ejaculation and fatigue but you will adjust to it. Give it some time as well, but I would not do it if you are emptying your bladder when you pass urine. Have you been checked for that by your uro? The relaxing effect from the alpha blocker can help quiet down all the nerv action that's going on, but other then that, I'm really not a big fan of alpha blockers for LUTS associated CP/CPPS. I'm not a doctor....My experience on alpha blockers was it did NOT stop my frequency and discomfort.

Now you can try Elavil 5 mg and go up to 10mg and that will help with your anxiety which if you are less stressed muscles in the pelvic area can let go breaking the cycle of anxiety tension and more inflammation and it can help with frequency. Talk to your doctor.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.
