under the weather right now

Post by carld »

I have been feeling a bit off kilter this week. My Wife and kids have been sick and I think it's my turn.

It has been about 12 days since I stopped Elavil 10 mg and last night I woke up with anxiety which I had not had for a very long time. Then my stomach felt off and I had about 4 BM from 2AM to 5:30AM, it was regular stools as well and needless to say my rectum and pubic bone which most likey was my prostate area was very much irritated. I did not fret it because it passed, but the increase in my anxiety has me wondering if stopping the Elavil was a good choice :?:

Interesting that I stopped the Elavil because sometimes I have hard/dry stools that can irritate. Yet I got irritated not being on it when I had this episode last night. It was very discomforting. Good news is I just worked through it and today I'm fine, but my anxiety level is up.

Controlling my anxiety is the #1 priority for everything else I do to keep my recovery going well. So now I'm wondering if I should just go back to the Elavil, because it is after all a very low dose at 10mg and I'm wondering if I should just stick with it because after all, it did very much aid in keeping my anxiety under controll. I have a call out to my doctor to go over all of this.

I'm wondering is this withdrawls I'm going through :?:

I can't help but feel a little disapointed over this because my recovery has been going so well. But we are going to have step backs in this CP/CPPS adventure and that's just the way it is. No worries there  Any thoughts :?:

Thank you.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

How did you withdraw? Did you cut back to 5 for a few weeks, or just stop the 10mg out of the blue? I would consider cutting to 5 and then take 5mg every second day for a couple weeks and then stop (or maybe consider 5mg ever three days..). Just a thought.
Age: 32 | Symptoms: Twingy pain/muscle spasms in groin area (gone), tingling sensation at tip of penis (has resolved as of now), urinary frequency (resolved as of now), thicker/decreased amount of semen (resolved as of now). Makes better: Stretching, Relaxing pelvic muscles, moment to moment relaxation, not sitting with legs crossed, Elavil, quercetin. Makes worse: Sitting, stress, more than one orgasm/day, constipation, manual labour

I would take a day off, then I would take 1 then take a day off. Then I took it for a few days and stopped. Thing is 12 days latter to withdrawl is not likely, but I don't know. I was just telling my Wife last night how relaxed I felt. Spoke to soon I guess.

Now my thought about the BM creating the burning sensation I felt last night leads me to my next thought....DIET.....

Last few days I have been eating shredded wheat and had some turkey jerkey that has a bunch of crap in it. Then I ate some nacho cheese doritos last night and caped it off with an orange which I never eat because of the acidity. Last time I had burns like this after a BM, I was dosing up on vit. C with ascorbic acid to fight a cold. So I'm connecting the dots here. No wonder I woke up with anxiety and crapping my brains out

Still have to consider if long term Elavil 10mg to keep my anxiety at bay needs to be addressed.

I'd avoid high acidity foods like oranges. Elavil low dose with appropriate strategies for stool softening (fruit, vegetables, etc) is fine long term.

BTW, ultra-high salt foods like Doritos are probably not the best thing for your general health (artery, kidney, heart damage).
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Diet

Post by calguy »

Carl, my new diet has stoped the burning I was getting after passing hard stool. I am eating a lot of vegetables and almost going vegetarian. I treat myself on wekends to a meal of whatever I want but stick to my diet all week and it has me regular and no problems with BM. I also drink a super greens supplament everday and that keeps my system running smooth. Acid reflux problem went away too. Its not bad going green, try for a while and see if you feel better.
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!

Break yourself in easily. St John's Wort is good for anxiety or there's the phenibut that Scooby has used to good effect.

The trouble is that now you're so much better you're suffering from "what if?" syndrome - the fear that every minor irritation is going to bring it all back. Just relax, you've been getting gradually better for a year now so chill out a bit.

If you feel you need the Elavil then go on it but it may be worth seeing your GP to look at an SSRI.
Age 56: Onset 2006 and bouts on and off since then. See posts for details.

Sleeper,

Spot on with the "what if".

Spoke with my doctor and He supports Elavil 5mg for now and use the l-theanine, which has worked well. So for now, I think this is the way to go for me. Good news is I'm not stressed about it. Just going through it.

The L-theanine is interesting how it just relaxes me. Timming is off that's all with getting this bug my family has right now.

Other lesson like Calguy said is carefully watch what I eat.

When I stopped Elavil I was on 25mg a day and I just cut to nothing from one day to the next. I've been around 10 days so far and have noticed absolutely no difference.

I know the half life of this medicine is long but is it really so long that it can affect you so long after stopping?
Age:33 | Onset Age: 30 | Symptoms: burning urethra after urinating, followed by rush to urinate again, frequency, pain under left testicle, perineum pain. | Helped By: NSAID's, Hot Bath | Worsened By: Stress, Sitting and unknown reasons (seems to come every 2 weeks).

Elavil 10 mg is really too low to have any psychological effect. Doses for depression range from 75-150 mg.
As for withdrawal symptons: I had those big time when coming off Elavil 50 mg.
I finally managed to withdraw by tapering off very, very gradually.
So it might be your body is acting up because it's suddenly missing a substance it thinks it needs.

Those symptoms will pass.

Mind you, Elavil has a long half-life so it takes a while before everything is flushed out of your system.
Age: 38 | Onset Age: 27 | Symptoms: scrotal pain, perineal pain, pubic pain, lower abdominal pain, sometimes urgency, | Helped By: sometimes excercising | Worsened By: found no real triggers

Your fine after 10 days. Even my doctor said in my case I was fine as well. But I decided for now just to be on 5 mg which is nothing, but enough to help with my anxiety. I must stress and no pun intended that I do a lot of work over all to controll my anxiety. Not just pop a pill and charge away in life. I do lots of work as well to maintain my anxiety.
