Is this normal after doing PT?

Post by SteveMalk »

Ok, so my main problem is having the tight rectum with tons of spasms (golfball feeling). It has been this way for years and years. Over a week or so ago I started doing PT internally, very simple stretching with a finger with lube. I would slowly stretch at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 position. The sphinter and muscles in there would spasm and squeeze my finger SO hard! It was like an automatic reaction.

The day after the first time I did this I had major pain. After a few days I began the internal PT again and each time I could feel more of a release of the muscle bands in there. In fact, I was able to do internal PT for almost 4 days in a row and the next day things felt looser.

But then I had a day recently where things tightened up during the day and I did PT that night and I have been in the biggest flair up now for several days. The pain and tightness, spasm are even worse!

Now I can't help but think that it is hurting, not helping.

Can someone please tell me if this is completely normal and did you go through the same thing where you would have good PT and relaxation then all of a sudden, you would have a big flair up after doing the PT?

I guess I need some re-assurance that I'm on track.

Would you advise me taking some sort of anti-inflammatory as well?

Are you combining this with stretches and deliberate relaxation, or not?
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Yes, I do daily relaxation at least twice. And stretching on my abs and thighs.

Some of my worst flares have come right after sessions with a very competent physical therapist. It's discouraging, but pretty common I think.
I am not a doctor too!
Age 64, sudden onset 5/06 during bout of flu, colitis, lung and liver problems. Pain in penis, then moved to rectum. No urinary symptoms. Use Lyrica, Elavil, paxil, Xanax, morphine, vicodin, relaxation, pads for sitting, 100+ PT sessions. Sensitive to gluten, milk protein, soy. I have CFS, anxiety, GERD, Barrett's, colitis, kidney stones, one of which referred pain to penis.

steve,

1) try using PrepH after you're done to help with soreness

2) talk to your PT about getting a dilator to use to stretch the anus, etc. These come in various sizes and assist in stretching the tissue. Your PT can instruct you in their usage, etc.
