sphincter muscles tensing up...need info please

Post by flump »

i`ve been doing SP for past 8 months daily and having pt every 2 weeks plus my partner does it on me twice a week in between this ...now things have improved slightly for me not so much pain deep inside the pelvis, can pee better but the most annoying problem is still there the sphinchter muscles keep tightening up badly!!..

when i`m chilled out sat around doing nothing i`m 95% pain free but when I do anything like house work, washing up basically anything that requires me getting up of my ass the sphincter (about half inch to 1 inch in ) starts to tighten up so I stop try and drop the pelvic floor which it does slightly loosen of but bam couple of minutes later its comes back unless I sit down and rest till it goes away, then if I do return to house work etc off we go again almost straight away it comes back, its like a clock it starts of slight tension then in a matter of no time it gets tighter and tighter!..

now my question is this...i still have a good half a dozen T/P in the pelvis area now will this tightening stop when ALL the T/p go?...i know anxiety feeds it but is my problem anxiety related to the tightening of the sphincter seeing as i`m 95% pain free when sat doing nothing or are the T/P making it do it?...this is driving me crazy and the pains a bitch if I can get rid of this i`m there....your thoughts please

Do you mean the urinary or anal sphincter? (I'm guessing the anal sphincter, but I'm not sure.)
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.

Not medical advice. Consult your doctor.

Yes, mine tightens on me, my trigger points are only about 1 inch inside all around the clock.

Takes a lot of stretching. I put a finger in and stretch it out also hit the perineum. I also just grab a butt cheek and pull outwards, I can feel the muscles kind of do a rubber band thing, and this is them stretching when tight. This sometimes helps if I am at rest, if not, it will tighten back up on me. Have to keep at it.

do you think its the t/p deep in the pelvis controlling this as I have got no t/p in my sphincter now but there are some deep in the pelvis..if it was there all the time I would say defo yes but as it only comes when i`m doing things makes me think its in my mind and i`m doing it all by myself not the t/p doing it?

I really dont know, my thoughts are opposite though. We know t/ps are triggered by activity and stress, by doing yard work, running etc, I believe we activate the t/ps causing them to tighten down, mine arent to deep so the anal sphincter takes the brunt of this tightening, Just my theory. I do think there could be a mental part to it, but I dont know I tend to stick towards the t/p side of it.

Yes, I too have noticed it is not just the perineum that locks up, but also the anal sphincter. The methods in the aforementioned posts work for me, such as pulling the butcheeks apart. Also, if I am standing somewhere and tightness is felt, I can punch or jostle the area and it loosens up. I feel if there was a machine constantly massaging my gluteus muscles or vibrating my perineum/anal area the tension would subside. Any other suggested methods would be appreciated.

Symptoms: Pain in perineum, tight sphincter muscles, referred pain at tip of penis.
Helped By: sleep, hot baths, relaxation, stretching protocol.
