Hello Everyone,
I am thinking of going to see Dr. Wise in California but I am very nervous to do this. It's a big amount of $$ to invest (though if it can cure me it's worth every penny). Can you guys tell me what you think of it? I'm trying his methods here in Detroit but I feel like I need the real deal to make some progress. I'm just a little skeptical of what they can do for me as I have no way of knowing if it is legit or not. Dr. Wise referred me to this great guy who was a patient of his and he has been consulting me on how to treat it. But what if this guy is on their payroll or something? I don't believe that he is but who's to know?
Help! Can anyone verify that taking this step is worth it time/money/relief wise? Thanks, Chris

I've been and it was worth it, I have made slow but steady progress so much so I've resumed many of the activities I once had to give up. I'm lifting weights again and golfing. Still can't sprint for soccer, but it will come.
I havent seen you on the board before, but if your symptoms are muscular in nature this is the best 5K you could spend.
Regards,
Ss

Thanks for the info. I've been on antibiotics on and off since Nov 2004. My concern is that my problem is not bacterial in nature. Why does it keep coming back? They don't know. I went on Bactrum in early July and it worked. But my symptoms came back. So I went on Cipro and I don't feel much relief. Very concerned. I've been practicing some of the methodology from Dr. Wise - except - I can't find anyone around here who can do the pelvic floor trigger point work. It's discouraging.
Anyway - I want to kick this problem. Dr. Wise seems to have the solution. My doctor can't even tell me if it's bacteria or not!! GRRR He believes it is since the pills worked before. I am skeptical now.

Chath,
I would stop the antibiotics, you are only doing damage to your self at this point. If test show negative, then stop the usage.
I would take the trip to Stanford so you can learn how to treat your self. It's the home treatment that will get you well. You need to learn how to self treat. Read up more in this forum to learn.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Unfortunatly I do not know if I have tested negative or not because they don't test me!!!!! They take a urine sample but Dr. Wise said that they can't see an infection using that.

Have they done and EPs ( expressed prostatic secretion). Basically a DRE exame ( Digital rectal exame ) By pressing vigerously on the prostate to sample fluid and culture it. 95 % of the time this will be negative for a culture growth. It's very uncomfortable but nessessary to rule infection out.chath wrote:Unfortunatly I do not know if I have tested negative or not because they don't test me!!!!! Once this is ruled non bacterial which it probebly will be, you can go from there.

No, they've never done that to me, of course.
Just one tiny part of the frustration that I and I assume thousands go through.
My Urologist office is IMPOSSIBLE to deal with. I wanted to go see a physical therapist for pelvic floor relaxation and I needed a script. Trying to get a script out of my urologist is quite a task. I'm totally pissed. They don't understand why I need it..................how could it be more simple!!!!1 arrrrr.......I'm trying to feel better, no thanks to them that's why I need it.

Man, I hate tests as much as the next guy, but they SHOULD do an EPS at least, how else would they know if your prostate has an infection. Urine will tell if you have a urethral infection or urine infection, but not prostate. An EPS is fairly standard when presenting with pain in the prostate, every time I switched uros I had one, and it isn't fun--but it is necessary.
However, I suspect you won't have infection since this things keeps coming back. Also, the reason your symptoms wax while on antis is mainly because they are anti inflammatories.
Id seek out a new uro, usually Dr Wise will ask if you have had an EPS because he doesnt want people who arent dealing with a muscular issue, because they won't be helped and it would be a waste of everyones time.
Good Luck,
Ss
