Another NoMoPain update continuation
This is a continuation of the thread that was moved and can no longer be replied to:

I was wondering when using the wand, how far is too far in? I havent really found anything yet. I just got the wand that NoMoPain had specified and there is a noticeable line about 3 inches from the tip. Just wondering if that line marks "too far in".
Also what is the best lubricant, I am using astroglide. This stuff is great for masturbation, but not sure it is ideal for this.

Chris,
I insert the wand much further than the line on the wand that you mentioned. As you said that line is only a few inches so I go several inches deeper. To get at my Piriformis muscles I find that I almost insert the entire wand.
I praise you on your courage for trying this. But if you have had internal treatment by finger, this is really not that much different.
As you practice this on yourself you will get better over time.
I use the lubricant brand from Walgreen's (called personal lubricant) but you can also use the Astroglide lubricant.
Regards,
NoMoPain.

Well I am desperate so I will try anything that sounds credible. I was affraid of going to far in, so your information helps. I had the idea I was going to use the wand, find the spot and be like yea that is for sure the problem. I will try it again this weekend. I feel like my pain is orginating at around where the prostate is, so I get the feeling this is the right thing to do.
I have never had any therapist do internal treatment on me. I havnt found anyone skilled in that area. In a way I would rather then not be touching me there unless they were really good at it and fixed some other people.

Ok, I didn't wait for the weekend and tried again right after the last post. I had an easier time with the wand this time. I did recreate my pain with the wand, and I was completely shocked (in a good way). I have used the thing twice, both times when I take it out the pointer is in a different location than how I put it in. Obiously I need more practice with this thing. This time was much more encouraging than the first and I think I found what I was hoping for.
I think I will spend a good month trying to figure how to use this wand correctly and pretty much maping things out internally with the pointer.
Thanks for your support and encouragement. Your story and continued involvement in the forum means a lot.

Thanks Chris,
It sounds like you are making at least some progress.
When you hit spots that recreate your pain, stay on those spots for at least a minute or two. Try to relax and deep breathe also when you are using the wand, this helps the muscles relax more too.
Eventually you will find what works best for you - trust yourself and listen to your intuition.
Incidentally, I took JuJitsu for about 7 years myself, and loved it, but too many injuries so I retired.
Regards,
NoMopain

ok, I am really just on exploratory missions down there. I am not expecting relief just yet. I was totally amazed at how sensitive the spot was. I could barely even touch the wand. I would have said I have external trigger points, but this one blows them way out of the water. I dont want to cause a bad flare up so I think I have a while to go before I am doing productive physical treatment on it. I should note that I have immediate mental relief in finding this.
I got two books you mentioned. One on trigger points and the other for mental purposes (a thousand words for joy). I didn't see much in the trigger point book, but it deals with the full body, so I guess thats ok. I will check it out later. I am very much into the other one though. I have anxiety a little before the condition and a lot after. I am reading it at work and I have been laughing at myself for letting negative, unfounded thoughts ruin my life for no reason. It is important to read it cover to cover, I looked through it at first and it looked totally crazy and useless. Going cover to cover it all makes sense so far. I am only about 10-15 pages in but can already say thanks for recommending this book.
As far as the jiujitsu goes, if it were not for this illness you may be seeing me in the UFC right now. I trained with Rich Franklin when he was just starting. That doesnt make me special he trained everywhere. I suppose I still could be, but its not really a dream of mine.

Great news that you managed to recreate your symptoms - and the pain really can be incredible. I remember when I did some internal work for the first time, some of the points felt like I was rubbing salt into an open wound. Then a couple days later, after treating that spot, I had no pain at all from that triggerpoint. Really can be amazing.chrisjiujitsu wrote: I was totally amazed at how sensitive the spot was. I wonder how many martial artists are on this board. I did Ninjitsu for 5 years. UFC 73 was disappointing - Tito Ortiz has really lost his edge - always happy to see him lose though

I just wanted to update. I have only done productive internal work about 4 or 5 times now. Yesterday I felt the best I have ever felt since I have had the condition. I started lifting weights again, and lifted that same day, so I am happy about it and believe I can start lifting almost as much as I would want to.
So for me, I got about 5 inches in or just past how far a finger can reach and I have trigger points in all directions. Anything I touch I feel is productive. I managed to recreate pain in specific areas including lower abdomen/above pubic bone, and the perineal area. Also the pain from the area I am touching, so that is all the pain areas I have ever had. It is all coming from the same area.
I want to point out that about 2 months ago I was at a emotional rock bottom, and on a downward spiral pain-wise. This is about the time I started getting active in the forum. I have done a complete 180 and feel so much better, and feel I am getting my life back. I am trying not to get to excited, but it is really nice to have something to be excited about.
Thanks all, I will keep you all updated.

Great news. Isn't it empowering to know you can do something about this condition w/ out doctors...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I know the feeling of not wanting to get excited. I'm not sure what's helping specifically, because I changed a lot of things, but Saturday and Sunday I finally felt like I had my life back. No symptoms at all (I hate writing that because I'm afraid they'll come back).chrisjiujitsu wrote:I want to point out that about 2 months ago I was at a emotional rock bottom, and on a downward spiral pain-wise. At least I know that I'm capable of being symptom-free at times, and I'll have to just keep reminding myself of that when/if I experience another flare up.
The advice in this forum has been invaluable to me. Again, my extreme gratitude to you all...

Chris,
I am very happy to hear the good news. It is very encouraging that you are having such success and you are in the very early stages.
Again, I want to emphasize that the more you practice with the wand and Theracane, the more skilled you become and of course the better you feel mentally and physically.
You know this self applied trigger point massage is the one of the greatest healing mechanisms ever. I run across so many people in pain, not just pelvic pain, but back and neck and you name it. Time and time again they report big time relief from learning how to do self applied trigger point massage.
My only unsolicited advice about lifting weights is to make sure you are relaxing your pelvic muscles when lifting and not to do any real strenuous stuff on the stomach.
Congrats on your success !
Regards,
NoMoPain.

I second that, though its easier said than done. Also Ill add not to do what I have done numerous times, have a good couple days and then think you are superman and go in there and start benching 200lbs, that will lock you back up like no other, then you have to sit out a week or two and your pissed off and depressed thinking youve set yourself back miles. Maybe I'm the only idiot that does this on the board, its my personality to push the boundaries and I love being active.NoMoPain wrote:My only unsolicited advice about lifting weights is to make sure you are relaxing your pelvic muscles when lifting and not to do any real strenuous stuff on the stomach.

I will keep you all updated on the lifting to if you like. It is important for my mental health that I be able to maintain a good workout routine. I just started that to, but it is been going well and I sit in the jacuzzi for 10 mins directly after to offset that tension if there ever was some. I have never noticed lifting to flare up my condition. I have noticed running will do it. I had stopped lifting with the idea that it might flare it up, but now I have to make it work. I obiously need to work out my abs like any other body part, so how could I do that without putting stress on the stomach? This might be best answered by scoobysnack.
I was thinking just to try not to be to intense and focus on my breathing and form and what not. Dont be one of those guys that yells as he throws up twice his body weight. Try to relax somewhat while maintaining focus at the same time. Does that sound about right?
I almost got a little to overconfident: like if I had a bad day all I have to do is stick the wand up there, press the button and I am good to go.

I would not do direct ab work right now. The abs are indirectly stimulated whenever you do any exercise as that is your core and the core will tighten to stabilize. The only time I ever did direct ab work was when I was getting ready for a bodybuilding show and I have very thick abs that are fairly easy to see (my point is you dont need direct work all the time). Lifting in and of itself will stimulate the abs, thats why it bothers some of us, that and it also stimulates the pelvic floor as the abs and the floor are connected.chrisjiujitsu wrote:I will keep you all updated on the lifting to if you like. Anyways, Id stay off direct work for a while.
And yes I would not go for any personal best lifts right now. I actually would back the weight down and do higher reps, thats what I do, its not going to ad muscle in the short run but it will maintain and keep you in shape.
Good Luck,
