5ARIs (e.g. finasteride)

Post by darin »

Hey
I read about something called 5ARIs -- one such pill is called Finasteride. Anyone have any luck with them? I heard this kind of drug, in combo with an alpha blocker such as Uroxatrol, can help.

As I've written here before, I've had some good success with a mixed bag of treatment options (Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol stretches, occasional PT, any accredited quercetin product supplements, plus small daily doses of Vlaium, Elavil and Uroxatrol. I've also been using this IF/Tens machine -- called Rehabilicare -- which, as I've mentioned before, has helped a lot.

Still, if I'm traveling, or on vacation -- and miss some strecthing sessions, or find myself sitting for a while, or unable to use the IF/TENS machine -- I have a small relapse. (Not pain, so much as frequency/urgency). So, I'm still searching for a more perfect cure.

Anybody know about 5ARIs like finasteride?
Thanks
thanks

5ARI stands for 5α-Reductase Inhibitor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-alpha-re ... _inhibitor

They are antiandrogens that reduce dihydrotestosterone, and are usually used to treat BPH.

Not much about them on this forum yet. I doubt they will be of much use.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

My first Uro put me on adovart for 2 months. I understand it takes up to 3 months to see a difference. The idea was I have an inflamed prostate and that it would shrink it down. I did not like the side effects and stopped and I felt it did nothing to me. Not sure If I should of stayed the course or not??? But either way I felt it did not work for me.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.
