-it reduces sympathetic nervous system activity, which is probably overactive in people with CPPS.
-it relaxes the muscles.
-probably some other stuff
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.

Not medical advice. Consult your doctor.

It quietens the nervous activity in the pelvis, which in turn stops the inflammatory chemicals getting released by mast cells.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I personally believe that for may of us meditation / formal relaxation needs to be accompanied by a wider protocol to calm our overactive nervous systems.

A couple of examples -

Adrenal fatigue - could be re-enforcing the overactive nervous system and your adrenal glands may require supplement support.

Psychotherapy / repressed emotions - For me I have begun to realize the enormity of pressure that my nervous system is under. I have many childhood issues, and an unconscious need for conflict / struggle. Many times I have had months where chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome has not been a fear for me at all but other issues (previously dealt with or fresh issues) arise stronger than ever. Whether its my appearance, social phobia, IBS, back pain, anger at others, memories from childhood there is always something that my mind (ego) has to (though habit and a fear of having no conflict) focus on. Can any of you say the same??

It's frustrating but at least I am now aware of it, and I believe subconsciously I am afraid to let go of my identity as a guy who struggles though life but always gets there, fights for everything he gets and doesnt seek help from anyone!

Ask yourselves what your own ego identifies with and how you "see yourself"..
