Symptoms exacerbated by pelvic stretches

Post by N2Deep »

Hey guys,
I have done the pelvic stretches in Dr. Wise' book a few times and each time I do most of my symptoms come up and my pelvic muscles just feel much tighter, not better anyhow. It just doesn't seem to be doing it for me, I was wondering if anyone else had the same happen.
I was reading a bodybuilding related article about trigger points recently that basically said you cannot stretch out knotted muscle and the only way to get the muscles back to normal is myofascial release. Sure makes sense to me, though there must be people getting relief from stretching or it wouldn't be in the SP, right?

Stretching is one component of the SP, of which trigger point release is another component and so is the relaxation.

Based on my experiences I couldnt stretch my way out of this, basically because the muscles on me that are tight there is no direct stretch for them. I need continual trigger point release and stretching of those muscles in my pelvic floor, especially those that are posterior, through internal work.

That being said, stretching will help start to expand those tight areas and its better than doing nothing, but you should seek the help of a skilled PT.

Stretching seemed to help me in the beginning, but I reached a point where it just consistently made me worse. My PT insisted I stop trying, and her work does seem to be doing the trick. She's going to give me some specific stretches when she thinks I'm ready.
I am not a doctor too!
Age 64, sudden onset 5/06 during bout of flu, colitis, lung and liver problems. Pain in penis, then moved to rectum. No urinary symptoms. Use Lyrica, Elavil, paxil, Xanax, morphine, vicodin, relaxation, pads for sitting, 100+ PT sessions. Sensitive to gluten, milk protein, soy. I have CFS, anxiety, GERD, Barrett's, colitis, kidney stones, one of which referred pain to penis.
