Looking for a expert opinion.
Was wondering if any of you wonderful people are aware of a physician in rhode island or mass. that specializes in prostatitis or CPPS? Was just trying to get the best advice possible in my area.
Age: 30 | Onset Age:26 | Symptoms:Primary symptom is pain in the area of the perineum. Do not have frequent urination. Do not have golf ball feeling. Sometimes feel as though I have urine in the area of the perineum where if I try to urinate I can sometimes alleviate the pain. Pain can be described as sort of a burning/tightness discomfort. Usually do not feel that great when the pain is at its worse. Have seemingly also developed an acid reflux problem over the past couple years. | Helped By: Warm water, although dont seem to get much from other sources of heat, like heating pads. For some reason drinking alcohol seems to make my pain better. Not ejaculating for extended periods of time helps, but the longer I go without ejaculating, the worse its going to be once I do. Tried prosta-q and Q-Urol, both didn't do anything for me. Have been on multiple antibiotics, all of which did not help. Have tried pain killers, worthless. Elavil for a while, didn't seem to help either. | Worsened By: Sitting in certain chairs. Driving for an extended period of time. Ejaculation. Walking sometimes makes it seem worse. Basically moving around at all kinda bothers me.

Harvard University Medical School is part of the Chronic Prostatitis Collaborative Research Network sponsored by the NIH. So, this would be a good place to go for an expert opinion. Stanford University is also excellent but about 3000 miles away. In your situation, call Harvard first. Good luck.
Age: 39 | Onset Age: 32 | Symptoms: urethral burning, increased urge to urinate, pain after sex, rectal fullness, now much better 6 years into Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol | Helped By: PT(trigger point therapy), paradoxical relaxation, valium, hot bath, stretching, Theracane | Worsened By:too vigorous sex, skipping stretches and daily relaxation

Specifically, Michael O'Leary is the regional head of the CPCRN (along with Mary McNaughton-Collins, who isn't a urologist, though). He does a lot of clinical trials, but I'm not sure if he's actively aware of, or subscribes to, the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol. As of last time I checked, it's surprising how little even the members of the CPCRN, of which Rodney Anderson is a member, know about the SP.
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.
