Can I encourage those of you taking vitamins to take them in powder form (i.e. chew or crush the tablets before swallowing). This is of particular importance for those with gluten intolerance / IBS like complaints.
The science behind this is it is much easier for the stomach to break down and absorb vitamins this way. Any food item that is even slightly too big may not be broken down properly. Again gluten intolerants watch out & learn to chew your food slowly as that way the enzymes in your saliva break down much of your food taking less pressure of the stomach.
DIGESTION BEGINS IN THE MOUTH (good digestion is essential for each and every human being)
Oh why not - I'm not a DOCTOR!

Hmm, I'll have to think about that. The crushed pills can't taste very good. I'm sure you are right, however. My new doctor is urging weekly intravenous vitamins and supplements. I'm also trying to get myself psyched up to buy a juicer so I can drink extra vegetables on top of what I eat.
I also have dry mouth, a rather recent condition, which makes digestion even worse.

I am not a doctor too!
Age 64, sudden onset 5/06 during bout of flu, colitis, lung and liver problems. Pain in penis, then moved to rectum. No urinary symptoms. Use Lyrica, Elavil, paxil, Xanax, morphine, vicodin, relaxation, pads for sitting, 100+ PT sessions. Sensitive to gluten, milk protein, soy. I have CFS, anxiety, GERD, Barrett's, colitis, kidney stones, one of which referred pain to penis.

I've been fighting the pelvic pain for four years, mostly when setting. It's like setting on a spear. I have an over sized bladder that doesn't drain all the way. Three and a half years of meds and a microwave treatment did nothing.I'm considering the Standord thing though I don't know how well Medicare covers. I'm 67 years old.
