Spoke w/ my urologist

Post by carld »

I just spoke with my Urologist to give him an update and ask a question on titrating off my Elavil. I'm doing 5 mg right now from doing 10mg and will cut that in half for 1 week and go from there. I really feel it's so important to make sure anxiety levels are in check. I have noticed a jump in anxiety since lowering my dosage. This is to be expected. I'm considering other options for treating my anxiety disorder along with everything else I do. I'm considering trying Lexapro. Does any one have any positive feedback on helping with anxiety with this med?

Here is the other interesting thing, which is not new information, but still is more proof. My Urologist is a researcher for CP/CPPS for the PROSTATITIS COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH NETWORK here in Los Angeles. I asked him how the research was going etc...for the Lyrica program, Uroxatral, and cypro trials that are going on. But that's not what I was interested in. What I asked him was how many or are there patients that have anxiety in general that are part of these studies? His answer was YES, in fact many of them have some sort of anxiety issues. So my point is as we all know anxiety is a huge factor in contributing to pelvic pain and LUTS symptoms for many prostatitis conditions. So please know that once you have dealt with your anxiety, you are on the right path to doing all the other things you need to do to get well again.

Wishing every one well and peace, Carl...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

It makes sense - anxiety leads to fight or flight reflex, fight or flight reflex leads to tight muscles, tight muscles with predisposition leads to all sorts of bother!
Age 56: Onset 2006 and bouts on and off since then. See posts for details.

Yes! It's just nice to hear a Urologist think out side of the box and understand that stress can cause urological issues with both men and woman. It seems like there are only a handful of Uros who understand this. :x Why has this not become part of mainstreem understanding when Men come in complaining about the pain and the LUTS. Every Uro. should ask these men about there anxiety issues prior to comming down with this condition. I can't (no pun intended) Stress enough the factor about trying to really maintain a de-stressing program and look at the beauty of life attitude when possible. To really get the help we need to get to the root of the issue and not be to proud to say life can be stressful and I need some help along the way to get through. :-D
