muscle weakness

Post by Howden »

Has anyone experience these symptoms? Another thread is currently dealing with the topic of muscle weakness and CPP, but it seems to me that my problem is a bit different and I am hoping someone can help. I have been dealing with cpp for 8 years and have in the past few months developed some muscle weakness and stiffness in my left butt and left leg down to the knee. Please don't put this down to my age. I have been practising tai chi and some of its martial forms for 20 years, and have built good leg strength and range of motion. I also experience pain in the same areas when I wake in the morning, but as soon as I get up the pain vanishes. Rightly or wrongly, I associate the weakness, stiffness and pain with the cpp, or the medications used to relieve it, largely because it all seems to start in the butt (Levator ani, I think). I am scheduled for an EMG in April to take a look at muscle function, but there is so much knowledge and experience on this site that it makes sense to start here. Can anyone throw some light on this problem? Thanks in advance.

My personal experience with butt and leg pain on waking is that when I got a new, firmer mattress, the pains disappeared like magic.

CP/Pelvic Myoneuropathy is specifically not associated with pain like that on waking.

I tried 2 mattresses and then bought a memory foam mattress, but none of them have helped the leg pain. I sleep well though. It is a relief to know it is not associated with the cpp. Thanks webslave.

If you have age-related spinal stenosis or osteoarthritis, nothing will help. I think I've commented before that your symptoms, or some of them, seem to be related to possible spinal changes. Arthritis pain is typically worse in the morning.

Sorry I mentioned your age again! :wink2:
