Flomax or Atarax First?
For the past few months my urine flow has not been what it used to be and today I think I sprayed every direction but the toilet. This is always better after ejaculation, my stream is very strong and it also seems better when I'm taking Pyridium. I have my Atarax here ready to take, but I was waiting for the side effects of Effexor to wear off (they didn't so I switched to Lexapro) and now I want to give that a chance to get into my system for at least a week before I start something new. Can an antihistamine improve your stream if mast cells are your problem? When I seen the doctor to switch antidepressants I also asked for an alpha blocker. She gave me a bunch of samples for Flomax, but she said to wait on the Flomax until I see if the Atarax will help me at all. Another question is that I have been taking CystaQ for about a month and 2 weeks ago I added MSM w/ Glucosamine and had a week where I had a huge relief in urethral burning, but it only lasted a week. Is there something similar with an antihistamine that is stronger but also has the same sort of effects as the CystaQ and MSM and Glucosamine. I am still taking these and maybe it was a coincidence to have a week of relief so soon after starting so I'm really hopeful that something stronger like the antihistamine will make a big difference. Thanks
Age:33 | Onset Age: 20 | Symptoms: burning urethra after urinating, followed by rush to urinate again, rectal pain after a bowel movement sometimes, frequency. | Helped By: Pyridium and Ativan | Worsened By: stress, sitting and unknown reasons.

Lots going on here so this is what I think. Antihistamines can effect urine flow. The Flomax should off set that, but consider going for Uroxatral over the Flomax due to retrograde ejaculation. Uroxatral doesn't do that. I have taken Uroxatral with claritin over the counter, and I had no adverse reactions? Check with your doctor.
Is it the Pyridium thats helping with the burning urethra? or is it something else?
I would think after ejaculation, that urine flow is interupted due to residual semen in your urethra? You say it improves after ejaculation? Interesting?
As far as cysta-Q, it has the same stuff as Quercetin except you have black cohosh root, skullcap, woodbetony leaf, passion flower and valerian root. Lots of stuff there!
As far as antihistamines go, the Atarax is going to be your best bet from what I have read here because of the multiple uses, antihistamine, anti-anxiety, and anticholinergic effects as well. Not sure how the Lexapro reacts with the Atarax? Check with your doctor to make sure there are no interactions here to be safe. I'm not a doctor

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

My urinary spasm was always better for about an hour or two post ejaculation. At first, during my ignorance, I thought I was releasing something out of my prostate (which I thought was swollen) that made it better.
However, it was allowing the tense muscles to relax for a while. Kind of like kegels. The first time I was instructed to do those I peed normal for a few hours. Basically, they allowed my muscles to say, so thats what it feels like to be tight, we are always tight, oh, so thats how it is to relax.
After continually doing them though there was diminishing returns as it tightened the muscles.
My point is, I believe you have muscle tension in the pelvis that is causing your urinary sphincter to be tight, ie not relax properly.
I see a lot drugs being discussed, but what are you doing to treat the true problem, PT (external, internal), stretching, relaxation, etc and so forth.
Regards,
Ss

That's a key point. There has to be a routine of PT, relaxation and stretching. I find that in the evening if I do my stretches, do some internal work (internal work done 2 times a week) and take a hot bath and relax and do deep breathing, it is very helpful.

Thanks guys! I stretch everyday but I think I need to add some stretches (I do all of the ones in AHIP) any other good ones you know of? I can't find anyone in St. Louis that does internal work. I know I deffinetly need it!!! I wasn't too bad for the last week but yesterday I showeled snow and that evening it was back. I do physical labor everyday but thats the only thing I could think of that could of set it off again. I also lay on one of those big exercise balls to stretch my abdominal muscles. Also sitting has become very uncomfortable again. Could it be helpful if I just inserted my finger in my rectum and tried kind of holding to each side? Nobody ever found tps just a tight pelvic floor.

Just look at the diagrams in the book. The at home treatment is what's really going to push you to the next level of healing. Dr Wise himself told me that. What I do is I stand in front of my bathroom counter and lift my left lug up and insert my gloved left middle finger palm down from the front in. I press on the perineum area and around the prostate area for just a few minutes at the most. I just press down on those areas carefully and remember to breath and relax and try not to contract the sphincter muscles. I seem to want to do that.
By the way I have had no per say TP's just the muscles were tight, but the way I see it I did have TP's because when She was done(my PT) It would mimic my sensation of having to pee and the discomfort as well. I'm not a doctor

Dont think of necessarily finding those little bbs people speak of. I did have some areas in the levators you could actually feel, and now you can't. But internally near at the perineum and further down near the prostate, its more of a salt on wound feeling than a little bb. Dont be thrown off by that.
Simply inserting a gloved finger will not do much, but it will get you used to doing this. That is the toughest part.
If you look at the diagrams in the book you can begin to feel around at first. Get your bearings, then lightly apply pressure. If you feel salt-on-wound feelings or like you are going to jump out of the skin, that area is tight and knotted.
Good Luck,
Ss
