Off The Scale

Post by Rufus »

So my urologist today told me that after countless tests and rounds of anti-biotics that he may not be seeing me anymore as he is changing his speciality to fertility and "other" urological issues...

I wasn't surprised but hurt as here is the only doc that really went the distance but in the end failed to help.

So he does a digital rectum exam and places my prostetic fluid on not one but several slides since so much stuff came out.

It appears that the amount of white blood cells was way more than 10 per field. In some it was 40, 70 and other slides were way way to numerous to count.

Now, I may not be the brightest bulb but a high white blood cell count is not a good thing...

When asked if it was a sign of infection he said yes but he has not been able to culture anything.

So I asked him what else could be causing this and the fact that my lymph nodes are inflamed too?

He was evasive and didn't tell me anything concrete.

Does anyone here have any ideas?

Pain in testicles worsens as I sit but not always...Pain is not always present but depresses me. Pain used to be at a very high level but has subsided in time to a low level but has not gone away. Rufus,

I thought that a high white blood cell count could also be the sign of inflammation.

I believe when I went at my worst mine was pretty high too. Then when I went a year later, not cured, but not in as much inflamed pain, it was much lower, but still they were present.

I could be wrong, but thats how I took it.

If you have dedicated to going to see Dr Wise it might not hurt to drop him an email and see if this changes anything or what he thinks about it.

I'm sure others will weigh in here.

Regards,

Ss

When I spoke to Dr. Wise, I forgot to mention my history of high white blood cells in my prostetic fluid...

based on our conversation he said I would make a good candidate for the
SP but would a high WBC count change this?

How do I find his email or should I just call him again?

Yes, a higher white blood cell count can be caused by inflammation.

Rufus, I have to say my thoughts here on this one. I'm one of those that had 10 wbc in my prostatic secretion when my EPS was done(expressed prostatic secretion). Hurts like hell doesn't it!!!! That's why there are cases of prostatitis with inflammation markers and non inflammation as shown through an EPS.

Look the way I see it what ever is causing the inflammation if it's not bacterial, then most likely I tend to think that tense muscles can press on the sensitive prostate and cause that inhospitable environment that is talked about in A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS. That sort of thing will cause inflammation. Disrupt blood flow and if this happens then the degranulation of mast cells start to kick in and release the nasty chemicals like histamine and other's. Urologists don't know **it about prostatitis. Muscle tension which leads to muscle dysfunction which leads to inflammation and pain discomfort etc....

Ask Dr Wise about it and let us know what He thinks. I bet I'm not far off the marker on this one??? Regards, Carl...

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I think you're right.
Urologists don't know **it about prostatitis...

I really hope the SP will help.
I think it's cruel, unjust and unfair for men to live out their lives this way.

Rufus,

I wasn't suggesting you wouldn't be a candidate still for the SP, just that you might want to mention such to Dr Wise to ease your mind, because I suspect it won't matter. His email is public I think on his website, but Id rather not publish it here. PM me and I can provide it to your if you want.

I agree with Carls post as to the cause.

Further, you still have to get out of the cycle of this aint fair, etc. My dad told me years ago, "Son, if you thought life was always going to be easy and fair, you have another thing coming to you." Funny, but I still remember this and repeat it on occasion in the back of my mind. You will get over that feeling, and when you do, your be able to hit this thing head on, took me probably two years of denial and wishing and cursing everyone and anybody (even myself) to get past that point.

Dont do what I did, which as absolutely nothing, feeling sorry for myself, and hoping it would miraculously go away. If you look when I joined the board (2004), and then try to find posts from me on here in 2005 you won't find much, and I didn't really dedicate myself until January of 2006 to cure myself.

I have wondered from time to time if the type of doctor that should research prostatitis should be an endocrinologist, not a urologist. Any one agree or disagree?

I had every hormone checked.
At one point my testosterone was 180 but a second test revealed 500.

You'd think that the uro would not have put me in a state of panic as he suggested I may have to go on hormone therapy for hypogonadism which could lead to the shutting down of testosterone production in my balls...

He could have simply told me that repeated tests would have to be done in a couple of weeks to see how you're doing hormonally...

What a D***Head...

Anyway, I think everything needs to be ruled out but my thought is that an endocrinologist is not going to be helpful.

My GP is an endocrinologist and his suggestion to this problem is that I take valium....

Great help...

Rufus, that was funny! Well what the hell do I know. A friend of mine once said to call this great endocrinologist that helped him with his diverticulitis. (spelling) So I did, he refered me to a urologist  I just hung up the phone. This world is wacked

Yeah, they all suck.
I just want to be able to work a job and live a life and love my wife.

Is it so much to ask?

I also agree with webslave on who to see.
Once a urologist raises the white flag, well...Plan B I guess..

Ya I remember my first Uro saying that I needed to detach from him and start doing the things I love to do again and enjoy my family. Nice thought, I remember thinking to my self how about I take a f***ing lighter and put it to your perineum 24/7 and see how you deal with it. I just wanted some answers and relief.

You will get there, it takes time you just have do what ever it takes to take the edge off and start the protocol. I wrote a post to you on your obsession thread, it might be helpful if you have not already read it. That's what we do here, pay it foreward and it comes back you know... :-D
