Obsession

Post by Rufus »

I realize that many of you may not be very welcoming of me since it is clear that I'm one of those guys who so desperately is in search of the "magic bullet" cure which I'm slowly coming to terms with, does not currently exist.

It's just that I am so anxious as to how I'm going to provide for myself and maintain my marriage.

I went to a job interview which lasted two hours and I thought it went rather well. It's been 4 days and haven't heard from them. Trying not to make any assumptions but I don't think I'm getting that call back.

The point I want to make is that after the interview I had a complete relapse. Even as I was saying goodbye I felt dizzy and nauseous and I just collapsed on the bus which took me home.

Remembering now, I don't know how it is I lasted for almost a year when the pain was at it's worst. Ever since I've been out of work the pain scale has dropped dramatically but the anxiety has escalated because of my lack of vision of a prosperous future.

Still can't figure out how I was doing so well in life and out of the blue, for no apparent reason, I'm in the situation that I'm in.

You try to find a root cause, blame G-d, see scores of docs, rounds of antibiotics, try every damn herb in the book, shit I'd even do voodoo if I knew it would make things better...

What advice can you guys give me?

I need to take paracetamol to get a decent sleep otherwise my back hurts and the pain wakes me at 4AM. The back pain btw manifested after a year of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome which really pisses me off. Just when you think the ass and ball pain wasn't enough...

Valium seems to have had a positive effect at first but then the tides turned and I really really wanted to end it all. The feeling was horrible. I'm still not the same pre valium. Just staying home trying to relax...

My search for a credible PT goes on.
The work is costly and not sure who to go to.
I basically have to force myself to dip into my savings and take a chance that whomever I see will in fact be the real deal.
I'm in NYC so other than Marilyn Freedman who charges the most, any other recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, thanks for all the work you do webslave and the mods who post and help newbies like me.

For some of us, "doing so well" involves living a lifestyle that may be a little too stressful than we are constitutionally able to tolerate. This may not be true for you, but it was for me. I notice how you report feeling better since stopping work.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Yeah, my boss was a class A psycho bitch...
It was a great paying job but the dread I experienced before going to work was like a soldier on the front line getting ready for war.

Constantly on alert, always vigilant and the stress level alway unbelievably high.

I'm just generally worried how I'm going to carry on.
Thats why I started that thread which turned into a poll on who is and who isn't working.

Rufus - it doesnt just come on overnight (although it seems to) - its the culmination of years of stress, muscle tensing & a genetic habit of holding your tension in the pelivis area.

I am beginning to do so that we are simply not wired "correctly" for a high level of stress. It will take a long while for you Rufus as it is for me & others to accept this.

Having said this many men continue to work in the stressful environment they were always in.

I do feel more wary in my approach to life since CPPS. I can only think that in time as Webslave's protocal states that I'll see the benefits of all this. A quiet life in many ways I guess is one key factor!

Rufus,

I dont have any issue with you posting on the board, but I think your over concentration on science is misguided. I dont see there being a "magic bullet" cure.

For me, I could feel the muscle tension, the tight bands, the contractions, the spasms -- this for me was so clearly muscular when I finally slowed down and looked at it. There is no pill that will miraculously unknot those muscles.

I would redirect my focus on the SP and learning about the pelvic musculature in order to better treat yourself. If you have to charge the visit to Stanford on a credit card thats what I would do to get better.

If I knew what I knew now 4 years ago, I would have dropped everything to go there. It has been my magic bullet. I have been having more and more days where I pee normal, that is awesome, and much less irritation since returning. I have been religious about my treatment and its paying off.

Thats my advice. Redirect your focus, Drs, as they stand today will not have much to offer you. And all these studies you dig up are just hope, go with what has been proved at this current here and now.

Regards,

Ss

Bang on scooby.

I for one have never doubted that it is muscular - it makes perfect sense!

Rufus,

When I was at Stanford I remember Dr Wise stating that NY is the best for PTs experienced with treating CPPS. I would call him and simply ask who he recommends. He is a very sympathetic and encouraging man. He will listen and try to point you in a good direction.

But, I will admit I saw a lady in Cleveland who trained for a week under Tim Sawyer and she completely missed all my internal Trps. When she found nothing I never went back as I knew she had missed it. Tim took no time to find them, it was amazing, and felt "great" in a very misunderstood use of the word.

I can't help but think the ball in rectum you have is muscular in nature caused from Trps around your prostate and the pelvic floor itself. I had this when I was at my worst.

Regarding Freedman, are you sure she is 675 for one visit. Tim Sawyer, who is regarded as the best in the world treating CPPS, was billed at 775 for the entire week on my invoice provided by the clinic.

Regards,

Ss

Hey Rufus,

It can be tough getting used to the idea that there is no magic bullet.

But the truth is there sort of is one. Unfortunately, it is a very slow bullet that works over the course of months and years.

It is not a pill, it isn't a doctor, its not a herb, or device. Its you.

Scoobysnacks is right on the money. You need to take into consideration that while the pain is bad (and believe me, we know what you mean) you will be able to relieve it for hours or more with good PT, but the long term rehabilitation you will require takes time, patience, and practice on your part.

So your best bet is to realize that the silver bullet is backing out of your way of being and creating a new one. This doesn't mean quitting a job or anything (although you may find that you chose to do that, willingly, once you have gotten out of your current way of being). What it means is coming up with new mental strategies for coping, decision making, perceiving, etc.

I just posted an article in the news forums about a study demonstrating that children subject to child abuse or neglect grow up to be twice as likely to have inflammatory chemicals in their blood when adult.

Imagine how a life of stress, dreading going to work because of a psycho boss, etc, contributes to inflammation. Combine that with muscle tension that is irritating nerves and muscles, and possibly a disposition to poorly placed pelvic structures (life's a bitch sometimes) and you create a life that causes the body to vigorously attack itself.

So you, the person inside the body, are the silver bullet. You've got to get out of the mental irritation. But that takes years and is only half the story. While you wind your way out of the patterns of being that make you so tense, you also have to treat what has become irritated. I recommend the stretching in the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol. Once the mind and body are responding differently, you can work on the morphological problems, like sitting for long amounts of time, tight leg mucles or stomach muscles, etc, that are contributing. PTs are good at that and can hit trigger points. But if you, the silver bullet, don't change, it will not heal completely.

Don't blame yourself, either. We live in a civilization that is 100% ignorant of teaching our young how to handle stress well. Its a social technology that we don't even have a name for in our cultures, other than jargon like 'tight-assed', 'anal', 'up-tight', etc.

That's my opinion.

And feel free to post what you really think and feel here. That is part of the recovery process. We won't hesitate to be honest with you.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

Can't be said any better then Scooby and Lightning. I do want to touch on something that I think is very important for Rufus and any one else with this condition and trying to hold it together if I may. I'm not expert and not a doctor, just a Man that is dealing with this condition as well.

Rufus, look into neuro-feedback, google it and read up on it. It has been able to help me with my anxiety disorders and ADHD. No drugs needed and it basically is controlled by You watching your brain waves work and looking at a computer screen and how they look when you are relaxed, focused or stressed. You play a video game and if you are relaxed and focused, the game will play and a bell will ring. If you are stressed, the brain waves change and the game stops until you re-focus and are relaxed. You can actually change your brain waves to behave accordingly. Just one more thing to add to the attack of de-stressing because Rufus, you have to do that before you can go any further with the tools that we now have to control CP/CPPS.

An other important matter you may consider right now Rufus, is making sure your marriage is secure and intact. I have read that this condition is effecting your relationship with your Wife. One of the other casualties of this condition is how it effects are relationships with our spouses/partners. We become so over-focused on this condition that we loose track of everything else including the people we love the most. I was once told by my Wife years ago that " sometimes you have to just play hurt". I coudn't believe what great advise that ended up being for me when I look through the years and played hurt to get through and the dividends have been great. Make sure her needs are met at this tough time. No matter how you look at it and I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but no woman and I mean NO WOMAN wants a Man that can not provide and show some sort of mental strength and support if you know what I mean. I'm not talking about show how tough you are and just deal with it with out letting her know how you feel like a "Man " is supposed to. No Woman wants that either. I'm talking about a balance between letting her know how this condition is effecting you and what you are going to do about it. To start on the long road to recovery with out her seing you completely detach from your life as you knew it while CP/CPPS was slowly working it's way into your life. Be strong for Her and yourself. Live, you will recover and the tools are inside of you, it's not the magic bullet we all want, but it will take time and effort and it's all we have right now. It works!!! Remember her needs, because this ****ing thing can destroy your relationship with your wife if you let it. DON"T...take back your life and start with everything this forum has to offer to get you through. All the research/internet crap will only make you worse. I'm not a doctor.Regards, Carl...
