Beware DECONGESTANTS!

Post by webslave »

Decongestants are nasty stuff for prostates. For example, Allegra-D contains a decongestant, but Allegra doesn't and is prostate-friendly.

Partial List of Decongestants to Avoid:

Pseudoephedrine is found in Galpseud (UK), Sudafed products (UK, Canada, US). Other US brand names include Dimetapp, Cenofed

Ephedrine hydrochloride Generic name: ephedrine (UK)

Ipratropium bromide Rhinotec (UK), Rhinospray (US)

Phenylephrine Fenox (UK), US: Alconefrin nasal drops and nasal sprays, Neo-Synephrine nasal drops, jelly and sprays, Nostril Spray Pump, Vicks Sinex

Oxymetazoline Found in many decongestants, eg in UK: Afrazine, Dristan, Sudafed, Vick's Sinex, in US: Afrin products, Vicks Sinex products

Xylometazoline hydrochloride Insprire nasal sprays (US), Otrivin nasal sprays and drops (US); generic name: xylometazoline (UK)
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I suspect that the Pseudoephedrine I was taking for allergies opened the door to my prostatitis. I really believed when it happened the drug was just messing with my prostate. 21 months later and it hadnt stopped yet.
Age: 52 | Onset Age:49 (but I may have had warning signs 25 yrs earlier)| Symptoms: Pretty much all the usual suspects. Frequency, urgency, inability to always empty, burning and numbing uretheral, penile & perineum pain. Frequent urination at night.| Helped By: Internal PT. Myrbetriq helps but is by no means great. TENS to help sleep, and hand held massages of the lower back, hips and buttocks. Standing and physical labor help. Stretches and hot baths. Occasionally use gel iced pad on the perineum. Worsened By: Sitting (being sedentary), driving, sex, bowel movements, tight clothing and underwear. | Other comments: Currently trying L-Theanine
