Lyrica: recently started

Post by Richard.N »

New Year, new flare

I saw my doctor last week and got a course of Lyrica to try out. First impressions were good - it made me not care about the flare and I was reasonably content if a bit spaced out. I'd heard that it acts faster than benzos for anxiety, but I was surprised at the swiftness (or the placebo effect).

I'm still on a low dose of 150 mg/day but each dose seems to affect me differently. I had a feeling in the supra-pubic area (main area of pain for me) yesterday that felt like the time I had acupuncture in the same area - and then the pain vanished.

Last night I was in an uncharacteristically easy going mood.

Today all change. I feel a bit anxious and it feels like my bladder neck has tightened (I'm assuming this as my natural 'push' when urinating feels powerless). I checked the pamphlet and saw that urinary difficult can be a side effect in 1 in 1000 (so pretty small).

In others' experience, did you get any urinary side-effects and do they pass?

Cheers.

EDIT: actually, don't worry - I've dropped it.
Richard

Hi Richard. Any update on the Lyrica? I'm trying Neurontin at the moment. Was on 300mg 3 times a day without feeling any real relief. Have just upped it to 600mg 3x a day. If this doesn't do it for me, I am thinking of trying Lyrica. I do believe this is a muscle tension issue, but like so many other people, I just want something that brings some relief while I practice the PT and relaxation, which I understand can take many, many months.
Age: 39 | Onset Age: 17 | Symptoms: Constant feeling of needing to urinate felt in the tip of penis. Frequency. Urgency. None of the typical pain associated with CPPS. | Helped By: Valium, Klonopin, and very hot baths, followed by lying down still/doing relaxation. Also made almost symptom free for a few seconds following a bowel movement. | Worsened By: stress, anxiety, skipping meals, lack of sleep, extended sitting, coffee, alcohol. NO other pain or discomfort although after ejaculation symptoms will usually get worse unless I lie still for 20 minutes or so. | Other comments: Symptoms began at the moment of ejaculation, disappeared after a few months and then returned a few months later and have not gone away since.

Hi dude - sorry for the late reply. I stopped taking Lyrica fairly early in my treatment.

I've recently been diagnosed with chronic anxiety and low mood (nothing new there obviously, I just decided to talk to someone about it). I was first prescribed Citalopram which made me even more anxious and caused a flare. I was then prescribed Cymbalta (Duloxetine) as my GP wrongly assumed it wouldn't affect my prostatitis, being that it's licenced in Europe for OAB or similar.

I think I must be one of those people whose bladder neck is particularly sensitive to noradrenaline, so today I got a script for Lyrica - only to find this thread and remember that it also affected my bladder. Still, three years on, it may be worth another go.

I was on Lyrica for 4 months recently...can't remember the dosage, but it didn't really help at all, nor was there any side effects for the most part, although it made me a little agitated sometimes.
Age: 26 - | Onset Age: 23 - | Symptoms: painful urination, painful ejaculation, cold penis, chronic pain through perenial area and penis esp. at tip of penis, penis desensitization, general pelvic discomfort and pain, dribbling, shooting pains up to abs, VERY easy loss of erection - | Worsened By: cold, sexual activity, alcohol, stress/stressful/strenuous activity, heavy lifting, concentrated urine, marajuana, hiking downhill, running - No Effect: stretching, acupuncture, mindfullness, relaxation, meditation, a blockers (alfuzosin, tamsulosin), antibiotics, painkiller, muscle relaxents, valerian root, quercetin (3 months...tried twice), low oxylate diet, herbal tinctures - Currently Trying: Lyrica 450mg/day + Tegretol 600mg/day. Seems to help a little, but the withdrawal + possibilities of worse pain make it scary to go off...
