coccyx flare

Post by Clay »

About 3 weeks ago, my PT started in on muscles next to my coccyx. The coccyx became extremely tender and painful the next day. I remember whining here about difficulty sitting for very long. Ha. Now I can't sit at all.

The extreme tenderness has faded but it's still very sore. The PT has been on vacation so I haven't had any more treatment. On her advice, I'm using heat and cold on it and continuing my stretching. I understand it may take a while to settle down. I've searched around here and found others have had this same problem.

My question is whether this could be due to anything inept the PT did. I really like her personally, and I know she has experience with women and pelvic trigger points, but I am her first guy. I'm guessing it isn't her fault. She just irritated some muscles in the course of her massage.

Anyone had experience with this? Any idea what to expect? What can I do with massage while it's flared up?

Treating round the coccyx was and still can be some of the most painful treatment for me. It's a very important area not to miss though.

On the face of it I don't think it's anything your PT has done wrong - probably the opposite in that she's treated a real trouble-spot. I've always found that the worse trouble spots take the longest to settle down again following treatment.
