Question about mental health.

Post by GARYS »

Lately I feel as though I am letting my mind make this problem worse than it actually is. I know I need to see someone who can give me the tools to overcome this. I am just not familiar with the types of doctors and wanted to find out who I should try and see. Has anyone else let themselves get so obsessed over their condition that it actually makes their problem worse. The thing that is going on with me more than ever lately is the fear in my mind over going to the bathroom. Even if the last time I went was not painfull as soon as I am finished I think about the pain of going next time. I also can't lose the fear of this never going away or coming back as bad as I had it in the begining. I know if I knew or some one could show me how to deal with this I would be a lot better emotionaly and physically. Does anyone know what I mean and have you dealt with these feelings? I have seen some posts and did a couple of searches on topics dealing with anxiety (if thats what I'm explaining) but I'm not sure its the same thing. I want to learn how to ease my mind before I end up in a rubber room :o

I suggest using a separate program to compose posts. Failing that, always hit Ctrl+A and then Ctrl+C to make sure you always have your words on a clipboard before pressing any buttons. :-|

GARYS,

I'm convinced that for many men on this forum inc. myself that the fear of the condition is worse than the pain itself. I can say that since starting PT the last 2 months or so I have been in continuous pain (I really should get some valium / painkillers). However, my mood has been good as I have really accepted my condition.

I really believe that acceptance of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is key for each sufferer otherwise you will find it very difficult to be compassionate and patient with yourself as you pursue a treatment plan.

I also believe that for many men here anxiety is more of an issue than is realized. I was an anxious person but more in a specific area i.e socially stemming from extremely low self esteem growing up. This is now a thing of the past for me. Look up one of my other posts by clicking on my user name to find out how I did this. Suffice to say it took effort, self analysis & courage. Like chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome in a way I had to get worse before I got better - by facing my anxiety and gradually accepting blushing, stuttering, shaking in public / large groups until eventually it just stopped happening to me.

Core thoughts that provoke anxiety about chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome are devastating in their effect if you dont catch them in time. Trust me I know. I not so long ago went from having a really good week to spiralling into depression after convincing myself I couldnt find the necessary treatment. Now if I have a scary thought I try & deal with it immediately (my own form of cognitive therapy). I know when I havent dealt with an anxiety provoking thought because I just feel shall I say uneasy for a few days. This reigns true for thoughts relating to anything in life.

I'm a firm believer in writing things out - I have pages & pages of writings at home where I have written down what scared me about chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome that day & come up with my response. Many success stories in a folder also helps. Do you kow I have written down the names of every bloke on this board who is doing well / has beaten CPPS. Strangely enough I always seem to come back to a reality that sits easy with me. This makes me wonder that if you analyze any bad situation the truth is never that bad. In fact the truth sets you free...

I used to think that I dont have TPs, that Id only need quercetin to get better, that I could carry on with the same old play hard lifestyle but I never felt secure mentally for more than a few days. Why? because I was denying myself the truth. The truth is I won't get better with quercetin alone, I will need to put a lot of effort in, I will need trigger points released, I will have to stop boozing & playing hard so much. I know the nature of the beast so I am not afraid anymore. The fact is GARYS for you, me anyone on this site if you accept this condition, put the effort in to beat it & not give up easily you will win in the end It is absolutely no coincidence that those who post the most work the hardest at helping themselves & get better long term.

As for your anxiety issues have you been for some long term analytical / cognitive therapy? You may need it if you suffer with anxiety so badly. Maybe for you there is a genetic element. Maybe you have inherited patterns of anxiety from your childhood that are hard to break from. Either way cognitive therapy can work wonders. Numerous studies support this. Working on your own anxiety is a personal responsibility like your physical health. Take a long hard look at youself & ask yourself why do you get anxious? I dont mean to be glib - but really ask yourself some big questions. Can you cope with the life you have? Do you have too many pressures? You need to listen to your own voice!
