CP story and self-help

Post by itsallme »

Hello and thanks for this board I'm already feeling better reading through the threads. I was diagnosed with CP just over ten years ago, I'm 43 now.
Right now my Uro wants me to go on Flomax again cause my flow is impeded and I have soreness at the tip of the penis and sex is painful. I don't like the side-effects of that drug I get dizzy and just feel awful and the retrograde ejaculation is gross. Ejaculation through sex NOT masturbation is his advice several times a week to alleviate pain.He seems to think that masturbation aggravates the perineal pain because of the tensing of the pelvic muscles. I'm not currently sexually active and sex with my last partner was so painful especially the sore tip of my penis.
I drink lots of water stay away from spices, caffeine and all that. I drive for a living so I get sore and besides I tense when I have to hold till I find a toilet to relieve myself.I think this job is very bad for my CP. Sitting at a computer monitor hours at a time doesn't help either.

I want to go the self-help route and order some books and try some of the yoga exercises mentioned here. Does "A Headache in the Pelvis" detail self treatments for this condition and if so how effective is it ? Should I order the trigger point therapy workbook as well ?

I'm have an anxiety condition which I'm being treated for with CBT and I'm less stressed today than I've been in the past but strangely my CP has worsened - go figure !

Thanks

Hello & welcome to the board

Yes definitely order the Trigger point therapy book by Clair Davies. Its a must read if you wish to understand the treatment of trigger points and the author makes you want to try it immediately. Thankfully AHIP 3rd edition details an extensive range of trigger point referral patterns so you can begin to understand where your pain may be coming from. Give external self treatment (on the thighs, abs and buttocks) a go but be patient and understand that perpetuating factors (such as anxiety) will bring the trigger points right back.

And be careful not to over stretch for now if you do start a stretching programme. stretching can and does make the situation worse if you are stretching the problematic tight muscles that carry most of your TPs.

Good luck!
Age: 29 | Onset Age: 26 | Symptoms: initially severe burning throughout pelvis - much better; muscles spasms all over region, back pain, chronic IBS (much better) | Helped By: Psychotherapy, SP stretches, swimming, accepting the condition (understanding there is treatment); stress/anxiety management; possibly basic quercetin; valerian root, vit B & calc & magn supplements; gluten avoidance & especially dealing with chronic constipation. | Worsened By: stress / anxiety, too much sex; repressed emotions; personality goodist traits. 80% better

I found 10mg of Elavil to be very helpful with my odd sensations at the tip of the penis.
Age: 32 | Symptoms: Twingy pain/muscle spasms in groin area (gone), tingling sensation at tip of penis (has resolved as of now), urinary frequency (resolved as of now), thicker/decreased amount of semen (resolved as of now). Makes better: Stretching, Relaxing pelvic muscles, moment to moment relaxation, not sitting with legs crossed, Elavil, quercetin. Makes worse: Sitting, stress, more than one orgasm/day, constipation, manual labour

Welcome.

The fourth edition of AHIP is just out. I did find the Trigger Point book helped me understand better what is going on.

Are you sitting on any pads or cushions that relieve pressure?
I am not a doctor too!
Age 64, sudden onset 5/06 during bout of flu, colitis, lung and liver problems. Pain in penis, then moved to rectum. No urinary symptoms. Use Lyrica, Elavil, paxil, Xanax, morphine, vicodin, relaxation, pads for sitting, 100+ PT sessions. Sensitive to gluten, milk protein, soy. I have CFS, anxiety, GERD, Barrett's, colitis, kidney stones, one of which referred pain to penis.

I bought an inflatable tire years ago and found with prolonged use it did help alleviate the pain but I got very sore thighs and eventually stopped using it but now am considering going back to it (if I could find the darn thing). I believe I tense too much and can't wait to read those books and find out how to relax the muscles in that area.

Thanks for the heads up about the 4th edition and to all the warm welcomes replies, much appreciated.
