suplatast tosilate

Post by Rufus »

Has anyone ever tried suplatast tosilate to help with symptoms?
Age:37 | Onset Age: 35 | Symptoms: pain in testicles that comes and goes that also switches sides-trying to find a pattern as to "why" this happens/Rectal Burn at the 6 O'clock position at my anus which tends to flare around the periphery of my anus typically after defication but no perineum pain-no "golf ball" pain. Pain in testicles worsens as I sit but not always...Pain is not always present but depresses me. Pain used to be at a very high level but has subsided in time to a low level but has not gone away. Pain used to flare after sex but not as much as before although it still like playing russian roulette./
/Lack of SleepHelped By: I haven't found anything that has helped to my knowledge. Tried many many sessions of PT, accupuncture and chiropractic care but still have not found steady relief that takes me back to a pre CPPS state.

Suplatast tosilate (IPD 1151T)

The oral drug, suplatast tosilate (IPD-1151T), is already on the Japanese market and is indicated for asthma and allergies. Phase II trials are planned for the United States.

This medication acts somewhat earlier in the allergic process than histamine or leukotriene blockers by affecting IgE. Suplatast tosilate actually helps suppress the production of IgE. The drug also helps to block production of cytokines. In addition, suplatast tosilate suppresses allergy-related eosinophils.

[Case of interstitial cystitis accompanied by food allergy]
[Article in Japanese]

Dept. of Clinical Research, National Kochi Hospital. [email protected]

A case is a 62 years old woman who consulted her family physician with pollakiuria and sharp pain at the time of urinary bladder distention. Since anti-H1-antagonist but not antibiotics was partially effective against the symptoms and some specific food ingestion appeared to increase the bladder pain, she was referred to our hospital. Treatment with spulatast tosilate and elimination of food products that revealed the presence of specific IgE antibodies and positive skin reactiont resulted favorable clinical response. Cystoscopic examination showed reduction in bladder capacity, mucosal injection and vascularization, besides pinpoint submucosal hemorrage and linear ulcer by hydrodistension. The diagnosis of interstitial cystitis was established by those evidences and histological findings. The patient got apparent remission after the bladder hydrodistension and is now in steady state with an addition of suplatast tosilate, a Th2 cytokine inhibitor, on the treatment mentioned above. Interstitial cystitis is a very rare disease which is characterized by cystitis-symptoms with normal urinary finding and non-effectiveness of antibiotics. The pathogenesis of the disease is unclear but considered as allergic inflammation. We report a case of interstitial cystitis accompanied by food allergy.

Asthma & Mycoplasma

Post by Rufus »

I know this board strays away from the infection theory but most doctors faild to do adequate testing.

I just learned about Multiplex PCR tests that can pretty much find any kind of bug in the body.

Most, if not all docs fail to perform such a test.

Now, there has been a correlation between mycoplasma and asthma. Likewise, there could be a connection between ureaplasma and CP.

Has anyone had this test and come up negative?

Perhaps suplastat tosilate works in the same manner as an inhaler for asthmatics.

Just a thought boucing in my head.

Infection theory "strays away" from scientific evidence. There are simply no convincing studies that support it and therefore we do not allow it to pollute the discussion here the way it has done for decades elsewhere, disruptively and in vain. Please do not raise the subject again.

For good reason. PCR is highly dependent on the skill of the operator and false positives are common. It's also very expensive and is not used in ordinary clinical practice anywhere. It's a difficult-to-use research tool. Ironically, the best studies with PCR found that men without chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome had more bacteria in their prostates than men with CPPS.

SUPLATAST TOSILATE has nothing to do with treating infection, so one wonders why you are making this connection. It inhibits the release of cytokines (IL-4, IL-5) from Th2 cells without effects on IFN-gamma from Th1 cells in vitro. In clinical studies this drug has some clinical benefit in symptomatic asthmatic patients and reduces markers of inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness. In a recent study designed to further investigate the efficacy and the mechanism of action of Suplatast tosilate, Sano et al sought to determine the suppressive effects of suplatast tosilate on eosinophilic inflammation of the bronchial mucosa in patients with mild asthma. This study reported an improvement in respiratory tract parameters and symptom score. Moreover, the number of infiltrating and activated eosinophils significantly decreased.
