Statin drugs and stomach meds like Prilosec
I have been on these drugs for 9 plus years to control my cholesterol and acid stomach issues ( no reflux). I have not noticed any side effects, but does anyone know if there is some sort of connection with these drugs and inflammation and could these drugs effect the prostate?

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I've been on a proton pump inhibitor for a few years. Prilosec wasn't strong enough for my eroded esophagus. There have been studies indicating that controlling stomach acid makes for intestines a friendlier environment for the wrong infectious agents. One wonders if those agents could make their way to the prostate.
Mostly one wonders if the pharma industry would know. They don't know I have CPPS. How often are these complex things reported, much less sorted out?

Age 64, sudden onset 5/06 during bout of flu, colitis, lung and liver problems. Pain in penis, then moved to rectum. No urinary symptoms. Use Lyrica, Elavil, paxil, Xanax, morphine, vicodin, relaxation, pads for sitting, 100+ PT sessions. Sensitive to gluten, milk protein, soy. I have CFS, anxiety, GERD, Barrett's, colitis, kidney stones, one of which referred pain to penis.

Clay my thinking is it may not have much to do with inflammation unless any one else has some information on the connection. Do some meds cause an inflammatory response. Like proton pump inhibitors or statins which block production of cholesterol in the liver. I like many here did Cipro for 5 weeks and it did have an anti inflammatory help but not much more then Aleve (naproxen) does on the irritative nature in my urethra/ perineum/ prostate. So I would hope if any bacteria that was not detectable were taken care of by the Cipro. I think there was not bacteria that caused this, but I felt I had to try the course to see if it would help. I have not noticed any side effects from this so at least I tried a " short term course" of antibiotics.

Webslave, or any one else who may know. I read a post from way back with Dr. J Dimitrakov about statins and that statins can act as pro inflammatory. Do you know any more about this because I have been on statins for about 9 years now. This could be of some interest to me and anyone else taking statin drugs for cholesterol. Thank you.

Googling on myopathy and statin gets about a zillion hits. I had no idea. My wife also suspects her peripheral neuropathy has worsened since she started a statin.

Hi Clay, ya I'm not really concerned about the myopathy aspect of statins. I have been on them for 9 years, but it's effect anti-inflammatory effect VS pro-inflammatory effects. At least the web research I have read relates statins more towards it's anti-inflammatory effects on artery walls. So perhaps it would not play a roll in inflaming my prostate, but maybe there are some doctors in this forum that may catch this thread comment on this?
