I want to say all of these spasms, pain issues are on the right side of my body. First I get these spasms on my right butt it is located right by my rectum about have way in the middle of my rectum but not in the rectum the pain is on my butt. Secondly I get this spasm on the back of my leg it is right where my leg and butt connects and it extends from the inside thigh to the out side thigh as well as the middle of the back of the leg from my butt down to my knee. I have been told by a physical therapist that this is because I get spasms in the tendons of the hamstring muscle. Lastly I get spasms in the inner thigh it is where the right side of the perineum connects with the inside of the leg the adductor muscle. I have also been told by a therapist that this is because there is spasms in the tendons of the adductor muscle. All of these spasms where not notice able in the first couple of years of this problem they came about as time went on. But the perineum spasms and pain as always been a problem right from the beginning of this condition. My question is does anyone else have these spasms and what do they do to get these muscles stretched out if this is possible?
THANKS

I have quite intense pain in the areas that you highlighted but I do not think that I could call the sensations a spasm! Just pain!!
I started taking daily 500 mg of magnesium oxide last night to see if that will help and will keep all informed of the results!

I think I know what you are refering to but I want to make sure.
When you say spasms, are you talking about muscles twitching a lot, or are you talking about them getting hard and then hurting?

* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

I get spasms- muscles that seem to flutter and at their worse, lock up. It's probably the most painful symptom I have. It also makes it hard to do any relaxation as muscles jump and twitch.
I also get pain/numbness down that side of my body - from the perineum down the inside of my left leg to my left foot. It feels like a wire running from my perineum/rectum to my foot.
Is that a better description?
cheers

Hey perth, yeah, that gives me an idea of your particular symptoms.
The wire of pain from your perineum to your foot might indicate irritation of one of the lower nerves. Have you traced that path out for a doctor? Because if the path is very particular around the leg, then it will tell them exactly which nerve(s) is(are) irritated.
As for the muscle side of things, I get mild spasms all of the time. I get fasciculations--the twitching effects. To me those are a warning sign to relax the pelvis and increase blood flow. They come on in the evenings, mostly.
When things were really bad I used to get those fasciculations that would then lock up into spasms. Panicking at that point made things much worse.
I have found that now that I am pain free I continue to occasionally get the twitching, but there are no resulting pain symptoms. So, by in large, these are benign except when the muscle locks up into a hard spasm. I have not had any hard spasms in over a year and a half. So they can be stopped and yet the twitching is still around.
I would also agree with the original poster that I get more twitching now than I did in years passed. That symptom has increased.
Most people sometimes experience such twitching in an eyelid, and it is disconcerting. Getting it down a buttock and into the leg, or in the perineum, can be very unnerving.
To relieve these issues I immediately enter into mindful moment-to-moment relaxation, and if that doesn't stop them, I get up, put my foot on the kitchen table, and then do deep hamstring stretches.

twitching
Thanks for that Lightning Tree - it helps to know it's not a sign that things are getting worse. Sometimes it's hard to ignore- esp when I'm trying to do a relax. But I'll tell myself it's the muscle relaxing now and that should help reduce the panic/tension link.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Lightning tree,
First thanks for the response to my original post to answer your question about how all the muscles spasms feel like. Like you said and like I said in the first post these symptoms are more noticeable then in the beginning I do not know why that is this a good thing or a bad thing lol
First the perineum spasms always feels like a muscle twitching, fluttering feeling. The spasm that is in the inner thigh where the leg and the perineum connected the adductor muscle it to has a twitching, fluttering feel to it. The right butt spasm near the rectum is more like a hard tight feeling that hurts. And the back of the leg spasm which connects and it extends from the inside thigh to the out side thigh as well as the middle of the back of the leg from the butt down to the knee which I believe is the hamstring muscle that muscle spasm feels more like a hard and tight feeling that hurts but it can flutter to.
When you do the stretch where you put your foot on the kitchen table do you bend your knee and kind of lean your whole body foward towards the table you are leaning on?
