Elavil question

Post by carld »

I have been on Elavil 10mg for 2 weeks plus and it seems to be helping create the environment in my prostate to promote healing. I notice that I have had on and off shakes in my hands and muscles in my body. I was on Xanax .25 for a few months about 4 times a week and stopped when I started the Elavil. Is this a side effect of the Elavil and withdrawal from the Xanax and will it go away as I adjust. I plan on taking Elavil for 2 months and see how it goes. I'm also taking Quercetin and bpq supplements from Quercetin supplier. Any experiences from others would be helpful, thank you.

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Just a guess but I would say it's benzo withdrawal. I've taken Elavil and not noticed any shakiness.
Age: 32 | Symptoms: Twingy pain/muscle spasms in groin area (gone), tingling sensation at tip of penis (has resolved as of now), urinary frequency (resolved as of now), thicker/decreased amount of semen (resolved as of now). Makes better: Stretching, Relaxing pelvic muscles, moment to moment relaxation, not sitting with legs crossed, Elavil, quercetin. Makes worse: Sitting, stress, more than one orgasm/day, constipation, manual labour

Thanks Rider, that's what I think as well. My urologist thinks it's the Xanax as well. Strange how its on and off. I wonder how long it will go. That's the bummer about benzos, they work great but even only being on it for a few months can cause withdrawl symptoms. :)

I have been on 150mg of Elavil for over 2 years and I noticed tremors in my hands, arm and leg muscles and I have never taken Benzos. I do take Flexeril a few times a month for back pain but I have not noticed any pattern.

It seems that one of the side effects of Elavil is tremors. I have always had slight shakes from time to time it runs in my family, but with the start of Elavil and the stop of Xanax these tremors have started and hand and arm tingles as well or hands fall asleep when I lay down, no big deal just was wondering if this passes as I adjust. I also notice when I sleep poorly the tremors are worse and then subside.

Please do not base your judgement on me as after so long with pelvic pain it could be a nervous reaction on my part. You would need a much larger cross section of people taking Elavil to make a judgement that the medication is the cause.

I understand Kenn, I have read that some possible side effects of this drug is tremors. Thank you for your words. We are all doing what we can to manage our condition whether it's pain or irrative in nature or both.

tremors

Post by BilleyeDoc »

strongly believe that the symptoms of tremor are from stopping the Xanax. By the way you should have not stopped the medication suddenly. A gradual decreasing of the dose is the best. The same is true of the Elavil if you stop it. Reduce the dosage gradually over about a week to ten days
Age: 47 | Onset Age: 45 | Symptoms: frequency, burning in sacral area and left thigh and groin | Helped By: flat in bed, vesicare, exercise | Worsened By: sitting

Hey Billy, ya you are right about that, I should of backed out slowly. I thought just taking .25 of Xanax 3 or 4 times a week for 3 months wasn't going to be a problem just stopping. When I stop the Elavil I will do it by slowly comming off. I don't care what the Dr. says that I can just stop it because it is such a low dose.
