Question for webslave and others who may know?

Post by carld »

:-D Hi webslave, I just read the section on allergy meds and I was wondering prior to me getting my condition, I have non allergic rhinitis and over the years have tried the Alegra and Alegra D and others and nose sprays I currently use nasacort. I noticed with the allegra D it was hard to pee etc...But a few months after I stopped taking these meds I came down with the inflammation of my prostate. My question is this, currently I just started 10mg of Elavil and I take uroxatrol and Quercetin supplements. This combo is slowly helping with my main complaint which is urge to urinate feeling in my perineum and discomfort in that area, frequency which is now starting to lesson and urine dribble after I pee. No pain thank god as of now since I came down with this 7 months ago. Do I also try an antihistamine with my current meds or do I just stay the course. Your thoughts and other's would be very helpful. I guess what I'm trying to say is I think there may be a connection with the non allergic rhinitis and my prostate inflammation

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Stay away from any med with "-D" in it, such as Tavist-D, Allegra-D etc. In other words, avoid any medication that contains a DECONGESTANT because it worsens symptoms and can cause urinary retention. Be careful of Sudafed, Tavist-D, Contact, Afrin, amongst others.

Ordinary Allegra is fine, but may "pinch" the prostate area for a few days, which wears off.

However, in your shoes I'm not sure why you'd want to take an antihistamine at all.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Thank you webslave, I was just curious if the antihistamine would help with the overall problem I'm having with the irratation I feel in that area and urge from my prostate?. I think it would not so thank you for your words.

Hey carld,

MY brother has had sinus problems his whole life and also has this chronic prostatitis stuff. I will ask him about how he deals with decongestants and the like.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

I know this thread is 12 years old, but Pseudoephedrine is what ignited my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome over 30 months ago, and it hasn't gone away since. In the past it would irritate my prostate and cause urinary issues. They would go away when I stopped. Not this time...
Age: 52 | Onset Age:49 (but I may have had warning signs 25 yrs earlier)| Symptoms: Pretty much all the usual suspects. Frequency, urgency, inability to always empty, burning and numbing uretheral, penile & perineum pain. Frequent urination at night.| Helped By: Internal PT. Myrbetriq helps but is by no means great. TENS to help sleep, and hand held massages of the lower back, hips and buttocks. Standing and physical labor help. Stretches and hot baths. Occasionally use gel iced pad on the perineum. Worsened By: Sitting (being sedentary), driving, sex, bowel movements, tight clothing and underwear. | Other comments: Currently trying L-Theanine
