Have you guys experienced this....
So I was doing great. I had had another breakthrough. I began massaging the outside of my perineum area. I found a really soar area just about an inch under my testicles on the right side. When I pushed it allowed my sphincter and the muscle that is about 1/2 inch from the anal opening to relax completely. So for about a week a kept this up, getting better and better with every turn. I thought I had it. Well I kept doing this, and now I'm really soar down there, yesterday everything got really tight again.
I will admit that on saturday since I had been feeling so much better I worked on my deck, then had sex, went to a party, drank 3 beers, came home worked out lightly with weights, went out for a bachelor party, came home and had sex for 45 minutes.
Do you think its a combination of all those things, the massaging and really proding and overdoing it on saturday. I just got a little carried away since I had been feeling so good.
Now what. I layed off the intense external and internal massage for the past day and a half, just some light stretching, things have calmed down, but things are nearly as lose and feeling good like they were a week ago.
Have I screwed things up again? This condition is sucks, wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy.
Does anyone know what Dr Wise recommends at his clinics in terms of sex?

SEX
Just read AHIP, it tells pretty much the same thing that he says at the clinic. Once you learn how to relax the pelvic floor, it will make sex less of a liability. Ask CPPSdad about sex. He'll tell you how he got things better. You aren't going to like the answer, but you should ask him anyway.

I can't find my AHIP, had it at my parents place, but I've owned two homes since then.
Can you tell me what it says.
Is it once a week, twice a week, once a month? Etc.

First off, your description sounds like typical waxing and waning, and typical response to treatment. Flare-ups and setbacks happen. This is the point where I would typically back off treatment, but it always made things worse. In the end, faced with a situation like yours, I usually pushed it even harder. If things get really sore from doing something, you are either doing it wrong, or doing it really right. Hard to know sometimes which is which, but I tended to push it harder if it wasn't going to kill me. Just because an area feels great when working on it once, doesn't mean that working on it again will make it feel the same way. In many cases, we get flare-ups when finding the right spots - this is often times exactly what we are supposed to be doing. Perhaps the "relaxed" and "pain-free" experience you had was the exception, rather than the rule. So just take it slow, and learn your body's responses to your treatments. The better a student you are right now, the better off you will be. If you can master your body's responses, you'll be better able to determine what treatments are helping, and what treatments are hurting.

Texas, I may have had an 8 month celibacy, but this was when pain was so bad, and BEFORE I had learned about the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol. Literally within weeks of working on my perineum and transverse superficial perineal muscles with my Theracane, I was back to having sex again. Overall, sex made things better, with moderation. Scooby, I wouldn't want to diagnose a "sex prescription" for you. It all depends on your situation. If sex makes it worse, then work hard to eliminate the things that are being irritated (the TP's). But a few times a week seems to work best for me.Ask CPPSdad about sex. He'll tell you how he got things better. You aren't going to like the answer, but you should ask him anyway.

Scoob,
Hang in there, I can empathize.
This, I think, is why Wise suggests you get a thorough exam by experts, because trigger points may be being caused by chronic muscle shortening or other TPs. And both have to be treated. Its a 'cascade fault' as we say in my field. If something is off or out of place up in the pelvis, your perieneum is just going to be irritated again over time.
Can I make a recommendation? Try stretching your psoas major muscle.

In the SP the simplest stretch used is a lunge, but I have found that the best stretch for me is the "Eka Pada Rajakapotasana" pose, which roughly translates to "Hey, put your foot by this here and you look start to look like a big pigeon." :)
Here is some info on it:
http://yoga.about.com/od/yogaposes/a/pigeon.htm
This pose has helped me stretch out my psoas really well and afterwards enables me to sit for substantial periods of time with no discomfort.
Where I feel the stretch is up in the rectum.
To me this is just evidence that the psoas can be influencing the reformation of irritation in the perineum, thus the cascade phenomena. Hang in there, you made great progress. Just think about it. You took an action that helped you for a while. There are more. You will learn them as you study.
Now, just to complicate things, you have to do the pose just right. If your feet and toes aren't aligned just so, and your muscles aren't at a particular tension just before you enter the pose, then it ain't gonna work. I'm still a beginner so it can take me 20 minutes of trying to get the stretch right. This is no beginner's pre-football match stretch. The positive side is that it works amazingly well when done correctly.

* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

Hey thanks for re-introducing me to that stretch. I learned it in a yoga book I had, called Yoga for Regular Guys by Dallas Diamond Page (yeah the wrestler). He has a whole section devoted to the hip/pelvis, this was one, and I've overtime forgotten to do it. Ill dust that book off.
Ill keep at it. I just bought a house with my wife, spent the last two weeks prepping ours for sale, and still showing it. This weekend was a bad flare, which finally culminated after mulching the yard and lugging around heavy mulch bags.
I had to take 1mg of Ativan and take a nap, when I awoke it was much better, but man did it tighten worse than a long time.
Probably overexersion, finally, and stress. This will be our third mortgage if we can't get rid of our current townhome, so that is a bit stressful, though at this point I'm very opmtimistic about it, we have time.
