finally a good cushion to protect perineum

Post by scoobysnacks »

I owe a hat tip to Lightning Tree.

I finally made my own cushion. I had previously ordered the one from the IC network, but didn't like it. Its too poofy, and really it doesn't feel like any pressure was being taken from the perineum area, at least for me. I'm sure it might work for others. So don't take this as bashing that cushion, etc, this is just my experience.

So I went to our local home goods store and purchased the cheapest toilet seat they had, which was the tacky cushion kind, but that's what I wanted, it cost me $7. I removed the lid part. Then I took the cardboard that it came in, cut the flaps off of it, folded them up to make them thick, cut about a 2" by 2" piece of this and attached four of these to the bottom the seat with the screws I used to take off the lid. What this did was make the base a little thicker so I would get a little more rise with the seat, because the cushion part gives a little. I then put it in a nice manly looking pillow case so that It just looks like a cushion, lol.

This works perfect for me to the point where this week as been my best week so far. I haven't had one involuntary muscle contraction upon urinating all week. I've just had very mild irritation which I'm sure will take time to heal. But, man this thing works well. It allows me to stop and take a deep breath while sitting which expands the pelvic floor, whereas before, I couldn't do this because it was compressed.

I think one aspect of the final healing stage is staying off these muscles. I mean why do many of us have better weekends than weekdays, less stress sure, but also because we aren't on those muscles all damn day long.

I remember seeing Lightning talk about this 6 mos ago, and I waited this long, wish I would have done so sooner.

If anyone has questions about it let me know. Oh, and I use this in my office and my car. I don't use it at restaurants, I just pull one leg up so that my foot is kind of under the other leg, this allows me to sit more on the back of my buttocks off my perineum. Anyways...

This is something I would like to try, and certainly feel it could help my case. But I'm not quite sure I could handle the harassment/joking from people when they see me sitting on a toilet-seat-like cushion all day. Only a few people in my life know I have a condition (mainly because its so hard to explain to most people) and I think I would get stressed just trying to handle the odd looks and questions from co-workers.

Thats why you cover it with a pillow case. Hell if you have a sig other with good sewing skill I'm sure they could make it look less like a pillow case.

I do have my own office so people are watching all day what I sit on, but...even when I didn't have my own office I tried the other varieties but they didn't work as well for me.

Getting better or a little weird stares...ill take getting better.

oh yeah...and when I didn't have my own office and people asked or made a weird look I just told them I had a slight compression of the spine my lower back, nothing major, but that sitting on a cushion made it a lot better than not. Seemed to work!
