Strange symptom after ab treatment?
I have been trying to use my Theracane almost every night when I go to bed on my abdominal muscles (mainly due to my IBS like symptoms). I tried treating this a few weeks ago but I got this really strange feeling afterwards like my rectal sphincter was inflamed or being ripped out. I stopped treatment to see if it was related to the treatment and it did stop. This is not the same pain I get a lot of times after a bowel movement, I think that's the rectal spasm problem I cannot think of the name. Anyway I have been doing this abdominal treatment 3 days now and last night an hour after I had to get out of bed and take some pain meds because of the swollen or something being pulled out feeling. Does anyone see any type of connection or is this just coincidence? I also think I must have a hundred TPs in my abdomen, everywhere I press is painful. another thing that has had me thinking is that over the past 9 months I have really tried to focus on relaxing my ab muscles (to the point where I feel as though I am sticking out my belly) I am just wondering if from holding them tense all those years, that if they are finally relaxing if that could have brought on these IBS type symptoms? Any thoughts?
Age:33 | Onset Age: 20 | Symptoms: burning urethra after urinating, followed by rush to urinate again, rectal pain after a bowel movement sometimes, frequency. | Helped By: Pyridium and Ativan | Worsened By: stress, sitting and unknown reasons.

I don't have symptoms as severe as yours, but my abs have always referred pain to my rectum when pressed. I don't know if the referred pain is what you're feeling, but I do get a connection between the two areas.
This is NOT medical advice. I am NOT a doctor.

I would say definitely. It's all interconnected.
Symptoms are being stirred not only through the physical therapy you are applying but also shifts in mental focus and emotions as relates to the area.
I wouldn't suggest working on the trigger points right before bedtime. Working on these areas again stirs up the muscles and causing a "chemical dump" into the system. In releasing these trigger points, you're probably going to have these chemicals (mast cells, etc) coursing through your system all night potentially triggering muscle spasms/flares that could effect your sleep and relaxation - which is critical.
Better maybe to do it in the morning or afternoon and have at least one meal between you and sleep.
