Relationship: Specific Back pain and increase in symptoms

Post by Astrotitan »

I've noticed a relationship between specific back pain on either side of L2-L3 of the spine and an increase in symptoms, i.e, urge to urinate, tightening of bladder neck, etc. I have not had my back checked so maybe its time I did. Anyone have similar problems and have any suggestions?

Age 43: Onset June 2005, Initially: perineal pain, discomfort in penis, very sensitive, sometimes burning. Red around the urethra on penis. Increased urination during night, problems with stream, sometimes constant urge to urinate. Exercise and moving around and laying down helps. Sitting down and squatting makes it worse. Improved to about 85-95%. Symptoms usually mild pain near belly button and slight urge to urinate.

My latest flare occured after pulling all my lower back muscles by lifting a heavy box improperly. Also, for a few weeks I found that stretching my back muscles by craning my neck to look at the floor brought on tingling at the tip of my penis.
Age: 32 | Symptoms: Twingy pain/muscle spasms in groin area (gone), tingling sensation at tip of penis (has resolved as of now), urinary frequency (resolved as of now), thicker/decreased amount of semen (resolved as of now). Makes better: Stretching, Relaxing pelvic muscles, moment to moment relaxation, not sitting with legs crossed, Elavil, quercetin. Makes worse: Sitting, stress, more than one orgasm/day, constipation, manual labour

I know...it's freaky but it's true. When it was happening I tested it like 20 times a day and everytime it would happen, so it's not a coincidence.

When I hurt my back I couldn't look down too far because my back muscles along my spine would tighten up. A few weeks after I was able to move my neck freely I noticed the tingling starting.

It was confirmation to me that I don't have an infection, but some sort of muscle problem. The tingling has resolved. All I'm left with these days (knock on wood) is occaisional muscle twitches in the perineum and some short 'pin-pricks' of pain.

I'm taking 400-800mg quercetin, flax oil, a cal-mag pill (citrate), zinc picolinate, copper and probiotics. I stretch daily and try to keep my abdominal and pelvic muscles relaxed during the day.

Though I don't have the exact same problem, when I read this it really struck a chord with me. Whenever I am in pain, whether CPPS, or just a sore throat/ankle/whatever- I find that I test it constantly throughout the day, so many times I doubt I am even conscious how much I pay attention to it. Being someone who has been helped immensely over the past five months by psychotherapy, I can tell you this-for me-was a obvious sign that psychologically I was way too anxious about things which caused me pain/health concerns. My obsession with pain and sickness almost bordered on OCD, and it had become so ingrained in me I did such things almost unconsciously. I have no doubts no, as I continue to deal with these psychological problems and get better, this was a huge factor in perpetuating and even causing my CPPS. I would recommend you, as well as everyone else here, talk to a good psychotherapist familiar with anxiety disorders and/or chronic pain. Like relaxation, it takes time and effort and, but you will really be amazed about how much you learn about yourself and the ways you deal with this condition, and how much better you feel!
Age:22 | Onset Age:16.5 | Symptoms: Pain with extended sitting, Pain shortly folllowing urination, mostly above pubic bone, Pain after defecation mostly around external sphincter, Pain after ejaculation mostly in Urethra | Helped By: Progressive and Moment to Moment Relaxation, Stretching, Bed Rest (laying down and relaxing muscles), Hot Baths, Hot Showers, | Worsened By: Alcohol (variably), Ejaculation, Urination, Defecation, Stress, Extended Sitting, Sleeping in the wrong position, tensing my muscles while writing or doing anything else stressful/intense, Progress: 65%, basically only dealing with post-ejaculatory pain, onset after about an hour, peaks for 3-6 hours and then remains sore for a day.

Oh I believe you 100%, I have weird things like that too....it is just amazing how our entire muscle structure is connected, and we are the lucky ones that get hit in the you know what with the pain...I always say, why couldn't it be my knee or my shoulder etc...why does it have to be where it is :x

An incident occurred that opened my mind to possibilities and got me really thinking. My mum injured her back a week ago and is now in hospital. When she first did it she only got slight discomfort and a couple of days later her right knee! It turns out that it wasn't her knee but she did her back in pinching a nerve and she had absolutely no pain/discomfort in her back!. This is a classic example of where and injury in one place can cause totally unrelated problems elsewhere, which could be a problem with some of us. Nerve pressure from our vertebrae can cause referred pain, muscle spasms, bladder dysfunction (rare but possible as one PT explained to me), etc. Our spinal cord is the main piece of wiring to our brain so if there is a problem with the wiring our brain can receive incorrect/false info on what is happening and trigger incorrect responses.

Thinking back all my problems started when I lifted a heavy wooden cot a few days before. So I go to the docs and Uros and tell them that I have urinary problems, they test and find nothing. Is that I am looking in the wrong place?

I think the same way. I got my urine culture done (after prostatic massage). As expected, the culture was -ve. There never was a bacteria found in any of the examinations. Prostate was always found to be normal in size. I then wonder how has this disease got anything to do with the prostate!!
