Constipation + bowel issues

Post by rider fan »

I've noticed quite a few people have bowel issues here (I have them too). Does anyone have an idea as to why this is?

Makes better: Stretching, Relaxing pelvic muscles, moment to moment relaxation, not sitting with legs crossed, Elavil, quercetin. Makes worse: Sitting, stress, more than one orgasm/day, constipation, manual labour

I would really like to have some answers to your question. I never had any bowel problems, not even the past ten years w/ CPPS, until recently. Its so hard to find any answers because anything you look up tells you you have IBS. I dont think I have that, but people mention food intolerences but when I eat these foods things dont get worse. Its really confusing. I had some polyps removed about 5 years ago and I'm wondering if I have more and this could be causing all my gas and increased bowel movements.
Age:33 | Onset Age: 20 | Symptoms: burning urethra after urinating, followed by rush to urinate again, rectal pain after a bowel movement sometimes, frequency. | Helped By: Pyridium and Ativan | Worsened By: stress, sitting and unknown reasons.

Gary, I think you are falling into the same trap I did last summer. I had about a 4 month bout of IBS out of the blue. I just couldn't relate it to the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and was sure that I had some other problem, cancer, ulcer, ulcerative colitis, etc. While the IBS was kicking the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome was hardly there. Well after all the test were done, nothing, maybe some acid reflux. It was IBS, which in some ways is very similar to CPPS. Anxiety can bring on bout of IBS and we all know it can make the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome worse if not bring it on too. 4 months later it just left, and the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome became an issue again. I also had a 4 month bout of it in 2000, 4 years before chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and I went through the same routine, wondering what was wrong with me. In the end I pretty much knew it was IBS. I think that was a sign for me about my anxiety I failed to adhere to. Wish I would have, maybe I could have avoided the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome stuff.

The mind is where most of this stuff sits, there are physical issues of course, and you can treat the symptoms and get some relief. But the anxiety and stress is what gets the IBS going in a lot of cases. Work harder on the mental side, relaxation (hard but does help over time) and see a psychologist if you haven't or can afford to. It has really helped in the last 2 months just doing those two things.
Age: 45 Onset: 43. | Symptoms: Tightness, spasms, burning and pain in the perineum. Occassional mild pain after urination in the perineum. Helped by: Cardura, quitting caffiene, relaxation, fiber, stand up workstation and some PT a year ago. Makes Worse: ANXIETY, ULTRAM, going to work, sitting or squatting too long, constipation (big problems), stress, and sometimes unexplainable.

Thank you Treynor33! I think in my mind thinking I have IBS is like when I was told I had CPPS. Very depressing to say the least!! The only thing that is really going on (and I pray it never gets worse) is that I got diarrhoea one night and every since then I have a lot of gas, some stomach discomfort and my stools are more often than they used to be and less formed. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat or drink. Does this sound like IBS or maybe a parasite or something? Is IBS as bad as I have read on the Internet and does it come and go or get worse over time. After these questions I am going to try not to even think about it and definitely not look it up on the Internet. My mind is toooo weak.

Thanks

I've been battling constipation issues for several months now. I thought it was because occasionally I use ecstasy, which is very dehydrating. But that was several months ago and I still have hard stools without using colace, a stool softener and metamucil. I developed a rather nasty anal fissure after a very painful and massive bowel movement in january and I think I re-tore it the other day. :( I'm not sure if this is related to chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome but it developed during the time when I was at my worst with pain and urinary issues. I guess if it continues I'll have to change my diet toward fruits and vegetables beacuse I cannot continue using stool softeners forever.
Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.

I drink and occasionally smoke pot, so I'm not that judgmental about others doing drugs. I'm sort of a libertarian in that I believe that people have the right to make their own choices in life and put what they want into their own bodies. The "war on drugs" is crap, AFAIC. People who are actually addicted to a particular drug and get into trouble for possessing a personal supply should be treated by doctors and not thrown into jail with thieves, rapists, murders and other actual criminals. However, you might want to curtail your recreational use of E. I've always believed that my use of Adderall (dextromphetamine/amphetamine combination) prescribed by a psychiatrist to treat "ADD" had a lot to do with my developing CPPS/IC. Don't you find that E exacerbates your chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms?

Actually mate, I find it actually provides much relief. I have not done it since January and don't' plan on it again until the summer. The euphoric feelings of it actually make me relax and forget about everything and even while on it, I urinate without any hesitation. Dont get me wrong, I'm not advocating using illegal drugs to cure or treat CPPS! :-D But the first time I tried it was about a month into my struggle with prostatitis, which I thought was a bacterial infection at first. So I developed the problem well before trying E. I have noted no difference in pain or urinary issues except that I am at total peace while having a good time dancing at a party/club event. My symptoms do not get worse or better in the immediate aftermath so I would say it really has little effect on my problem.

In regard to the war on drugs, I agree with you. But E is not addictive. I've had many conversations with my doctor about it and while he does not advocate it, he says the information on MDMA is very misleading and mostly scare-mongering. He also compared it with drinking large amounts of alcohol regarding its actual toxicity to the human body. It will not kill you unless you do something very stupid like not drink water or drink insane amounts of alcohol. What the US govt should be targeting are the big dealers, not people with small possession of various recreational substances.

OK, then be careful, but have fun. Life is short, so you should enjoy it. I think our political views on this topic are similar.

i have these tender points all over the area...when I press, they are very tender and sore, sometimes producing intense jabs of pain. But they do not give referring pain like described in Dr Wise's book so I guess I don't have trigger points, but rather just sore muscles.

Two ideas

Post by Richie »

1. Not sure if this is related but many of us came here after trying heavy doses of antibiotics. I think this may be related to destruction of the natural flora in the stomach which in turn would reduce the ability to digest food properly.

2. I also can't get past the idea that all this pelvic muscle tightening has some effect on the intestines, perhaps strangling them and not allowing normal circulation / permeability to occur.
Age: 44 | Symptoms: Pain in pelvis, Post urination drip. Helped by: Squat stretching, PT, Prelief before banned foods, Vit B, Cystoprotec AFTER foods, singulair after foods, Exercise. Makes worse: Stress, Alcohol (1-2 days after), coffee, Artificial sweeteners, chocolate, tonic Wheat/gluten. Drink a lot of water!!! 95% better to date!

Age 21.. | Symptoms: Extreme discomfort in bladder, and lower abdomen.. To the point that I can't sit still, and sleep, can't do anything.. The only that will help is getting into the bath... Urinary frequency, Urinary hesitancy, sometimes taking a few minutes to get just a little bit out.. Sometimes lower back pain when I lay down at night.. Never have the golf ball feeling everybody talks about, and never have a problem sitting down.. Helps: Hot baths, Xanax (but makes me extremely tired), stretching (it seems like only sometimes), pain killers (ex: Percocet, but if I take them, they end up making me worse the next days following, probably due to the urinary retention they cause).. Makes worse: Stress is the main main thing, caffeine and spicy foods too, but not really a whole whole lot.. only a moderate amount..

as earlier posted, Ultram caused me big troubles...things slowly got better as I got off....hopefully being off will help you too..I think the constipation and urinary difficulties are the main culprit...
