Sphincter feels swollen?
Does anyone else have a feeling that there rectal sphincter muscle is swollen? Mine feels like that now. I have been going to the bathroom more often lately and wonder if thats just a normal feeling. Sometimes I'm not sure if I need to go to the bathroom or if its just the swollen feeling. Would internal stretching help this? I was also wondering what type of fiber would be good to make my bowel movements more solid?
Age:33 | Onset Age: 20 | Symptoms: burning urethra after urinating, followed by rush to urinate again, rectal pain after a bowel movement sometimes, frequency. | Helped By: Pyridium and Ativan | Worsened By: stress, sitting and unknown reasons.

I've had that sensation too. I think stretching it would help. But I can't say for sure.
This is NOT medical advice. I am NOT a doctor.

I've had that sensation as well and still do occasionally. What always helps me is to do some internal stretching - putting your finger just inside the anus and stretching it round the hours of a clock face.

Thanks for the responses! I'm going to start doing that right away.
The other problem I am having is that I feel like I need to have a bowel movement all the time. I always have some to get out but a short time later I feel like I need to go again. Could this be related to the muscle dysfunction? The reason I was asking about fiber is that maybe its not all coming out when I go and if fiber would push things through and keep it more solid I was wondering if that also what I need?

My sphincter is extremely tight. It has been like that for many years, and probably this is the first chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptom I've experienced. I suppose this to fit well into the muscle tension picture...

My thoughts are that it's muscle related - try and do some pelvic relaxation exercises - when you're sitting down imagine your pelvic floor expanding out the way - almost like your butt checks spreading out so your anus can touch the chair. A different sort of image is to have the picture of an eagle within your pelvis then imagine it stretching out its wings - whilst the entire time you can feel your pelvis sinking into the chair.GARYS wrote:Thanks for the responses! I do not have any involuntary straining (not that I know of), but I did just start using my Theracane on my abdominal muscles a few days ago. This is really rediculous, the last thing I need is another problem in this area!!!
