Tequin brings on back pain??

Post by treynor33 »

After about 3 weeks of battling what I thought was a cold or upper respiratory virus, I went to the doctor on Tuesday. He said he thought it possibly had evolved into a low grade pneumonia and gave me Tequin to take for 10 days. Yes the dreaded quinolones....

So I thought what the heck, for 10 days it can't do much damage and it may get rid of this cold. The next day I woke up with lower back stiffness and some pain. Today, the second day, the stiffness and pain is worse in my lower back. I have not had any back issues or spasms in that area since 1993 and that was just one brief period. And none since the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome bit me 21 months ago.

Other than a week of Tequin early in my CPPS, I never really took any of the quinolones, mostly the UROs were giving me Bactrim so I don't have that much personal experience with them but have read a lot on this site and other places about them causing muscle pain. I guess my question is, could the Tequin produce this back pain that fast? Or is this a new symptom of my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome which I have never had before. Any ideas or similar experiences would be appreciated....I'm not taking the Tequin today, that's for sure. If I need an ABX to get rid of this cold, then I will get something else from my Doc.

This type of pain is well documented on the quinolone boards, but in your case it should go away pretty soon.

No Tequin yesterday....the pain and stiffness in my back is 90% gone today. Amazing how fast those quiolones can mess your life up. Sure glad I never took them any longer than a few days.
