Cold or Flu and symptoms

Post by Astrotitan »

Has anyone found that when they have a cold or a flu that the symptoms for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome worsen a little?

For the most part I have been doing really well being almost symptom free due to massage therapy along the lines of SP but the past two days I have got a little bit of a cold and found that symptos have come back a little. I have noticed this in the past as well whenever I get a cold or a flu. It seems to stiffen up my lower back and then goes from there.

Age 43: Onset June 2005, Initially: perineal pain, discomfort in penis, very sensitive, sometimes burning. Red around the urethra on penis. Increased urination during night, problems with stream, sometimes constant urge to urinate. Exercise and moving around and laying down helps. Sitting down and squatting makes it worse. Improved to about 85-95%. Symptoms usually mild pain near belly button and slight urge to urinate.

a bit yes - I think its due to the overall stiffness you feel during a viral episode so try to take more hot baths to try and combat this a bit.

I have found the same thing- my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is worse when I am sick, I wouldn't exactly call it stiffness- but my body/joints always ache when I am sick, like most people, so I suppose this just magnifies the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome pain though I don't understand the exact mechanism, it seems logical.
Age:22 | Onset Age:16.5 | Symptoms: Pain with extended sitting, Pain shortly folllowing urination, mostly above pubic bone, Pain after defecation mostly around external sphincter, Pain after ejaculation mostly in Urethra | Helped By: Progressive and Moment to Moment Relaxation, Stretching, Bed Rest (laying down and relaxing muscles), Hot Baths, Hot Showers, | Worsened By: Alcohol (variably), Ejaculation, Urination, Defecation, Stress, Extended Sitting, Sleeping in the wrong position, tensing my muscles while writing or doing anything else stressful/intense, Progress: 65%, basically only dealing with post-ejaculatory pain, onset after about an hour, peaks for 3-6 hours and then remains sore for a day.

Mine is the opposite, when anything is occupying my immune system, like a cold, throat infection, stomach upset, IBS etc., my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms are much better.

Helped by: Cardura, quitting caffiene, relaxation, fiber, stand up workstation and some PT a year ago. I find that some illnesses make my symptoms much worse. The worst offenders are the "achy" illnesses - they cause my muscles to ache and my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome to worsen.
This is NOT medical advice. I am NOT a doctor.
