Hi all,
Well, I'd been doing well for about 6 weeks...now my perineum pain is back, but it's not THAT bad...but still annoying...and I'm having more trouble peeing than I was. sigh.
anyway, I've been feeling around my pelvic area and the tender points on my perineum where it meets my leg are back....but also, my rectum is like...rock hard. Is it supposed to be that way? It feels like a little ball in there where the opening is. I try to massage it and put pressure on it a few times a day but I'm not sure if that's helping.
is this normal?
Question about the rectum

Question about the rectum
Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.

I don't know what the normal tension levels of the anal sphincter are supposed to feel like. But I know what range of millivolts (I think thats the unit) the muscles are supposed to be putting out in the rested but closed state. You can see a physical therapist who deals with rectal dysfunction, who could tell you if it is clenched too tight. I did, mine was, and relieving that helps me. But Dr Wise (Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol) didn't benefit from this approach.
Something that you can do for free isn't fun but works for me:
lie down on your stomach and put your finger in your ass
. Not too far, just past the opening. Then try to relax your sphincter so that it isn't closing on your finger so tight. See how long you can hold this relaxed state, and see if maybe 15 minutes of relaxation doesn't help your symptoms at all. It won't cost you anything, except your pride if someone catches you doing it.

* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

I think this may help to. I seen a rectal specialist a while back and when he stuck that tube up my rectum I actually had a relief in symptoms for a while afterwards.
I think the day I lost all my pride was the day a buddy of mine saw what was in my walgreens bag (ky jelly, rubber gloves and an enema). Not only that, when I got home I told my wife to keep the kids out of the room because I was going to try sticking my finger up my ass!!! There is no place for dignity when you suffer from this condition!!!!!!!!!

yeah, I don't care about feeling weird doing this type of stuff.....I just don't tell many people. Anyway, something strange happened to me the other day when I was massaging my rectum. About five minutes in, I felt a twitch on the left side and then almost like a release...and then that whole side of my ass was like jello and not tensed up. It's back now, but it was an interesting sensation.

DJ, sounds like a positive sensation.
My daughter walked in on a therapy session with my wife once (she was supposed to be watching a movie). She asked if she could help do the therapy. She cried when I said no. I eventually let her rub my ankle. That was quite embarrassing. Not only that, when I got home I told my wife to keep the kids out of the room because I was going to try sticking my finger up my ass!!!
