lots of people get relief from hot sitz baths and or heating pads. If you find relief from heat it is a good sign your problems are probably muscle related (out of all the quack theories I have never heard anyone claim a hot bath can kill 'nano' bacteria or some elusive fungus). For a select few hot baths/steam seem to worsen their symptoms, I am not quite sure why. But like most non-medical therapies for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome I have found, no matter how strange it sounds, if it brings relief, do it. So, it might be worth trying, and certainly couldn't do any serious damage (provided you don't burn yourself or something like that). In general this is why therapy via the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol is so attractive to people- the theory of muscle tension allows for a wide range of non-invasive, non-medical and self-applicable treatment options. Of course lots for people who get relief in hot baths/sauna's this is an indicator that there is also probably a psychological component to their pain, obviously while you are relaxing in a sauna you are much less stressed than normal. So if you go you may want to consider this aspect while you are there, and monitor your pyschological state.

My belief is (as I have seen it happen to my self) that when they enter a vey hot enviroment they tense up instent of relaxing.
