Alpha Blockers Again
Alpha Blockers Again
For about 13 months I took Cardura. Most of the time 3mg but in the last 2 months was using 4mg. Well after reading a lot of things, even though it was working fine, I decided to switch to Uroxatral. Main reason was to hopefully cut down on some of the side effects of Cardura. I dont' sleep well and thought maybe the Cardura was one of the culprits.
4 1/2 weeks ago I made the switch. During the first 2-3 weeks I really noticed no difference in my stream, pain or side effects. About 10 days ago I noticed my stream was not as consistent. In the last 3 days it has deteriorated even more and I am having more pelvic troubles for this many days in a row than I have had in a long time.
Now I understand that in a study on this site it can take up to 14 weeks for the Urox to fully take effect but I am confused as to why the problems didn't start sooner. I mean I would think that my stream and other problems would have started as soon as the Cardura bled out of my system a few weeks ago, not after this long. Things shoudl be improving not getting worse.
At this point I'm starting to believe that Cardura is more effective than Uroxatral. Cardura seemed to consistently help from the start and never wavered. I guess I'm looking for any ideas or similiar experiences before I switch back (I'd rather not) and also letting everyone who uses alpha blockers not to switch if it is working.

My GP immediately put me on Xatral and I took it for 3 weeks. All it did was make my heart literally pound out of my chest, give me dizzy and "stoned" spells. I had a hard time relaxing to sleep (that's hard to do when you're constantly aware of your heart beat). My doctor seemed dumbfounded about my reaction. He seemed to think it was a miracle drug or something.
Anyway, I've been doing so great for a few weeks...but he said if I start having problems urinating again, he gave me a hefty supply of Flomax samples. Again, he said they were pretty good with side effects...but that's not what i've heard.

Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.
IMO Cardura is DEFINITELY better than the other two....just takes time to tirate it up. My Pharmacy switched me to a generic this weekend and I am having troubles. I am going to go back and ask for a non-generic. Anyone ever have any problems with generic drugs? This is the second time I've had problems with generic cardura. While the non-generic works great for me.

I have a question about Flomax please anybody? My urinary problems have been steadily getting worse the last week (i was doing well for a month) so I'm going to start the Flomax for the first time. But I'm on Elavil, 20mg nightly.
Should I stop the Elavil for a day and then start the Flomax? My GP said if it get worse (and it clearly has) that I should only take one of them at a time because they can "confuse" the muscles or something.....not sure what he was on about there.
Thanks.

Flomax is going to give you some side effects that most men don't like....read more on this site about it.

I have taken Flomax for four years and it has helped me. Without it I have a hard time starting to pee and I know I have retention without the Flomax. At first it made my sinuses stuffed up and gave me a headache but that went away with a few days. It does cause retrograde ejaculation which is a bit disconcerting sometimes but if you stop it for one day it all comes out just like it did before.

on a website about Flomax, it says the retrograde ejaculation only happens in 4% of men....are those stats a bit off?
It seems most guys on here have that strange side effect.
I can't imagine what that would be like...does it hurt?

No it doesn't hurt, the semen just goes into your bladder instead of coming out. It is a bit strange to orgasm and nothing comes out. If you stop the Flomax it returns to normal. I don't know if most men have this side effect but I would imagine that most have a decreased ejaculation volume. Most older men who have had a TURP also have retrograde ejaculation. Its not harmful, just strange.

ok, well I have 8 weeks worth of free samples (even though I have my dad's General Motors insurance plan, my GP insists on giving me his samples
) so I'm going to give it a try after Thursday. I'm going to a Halloween party that will be rampant with varying toxins, so I best hold off starting it unitl after then.
Hopefully it doens't make my heart pound out of my chest like Xatral did for the 2.5 weeks I could stand taking it.

those stats are way off....more like 80% vs 4%.

hmm....is this true just to CPPS/prostatitis sufferers or also BPH people that the drug is designed for? I guess I'll find out soon enough but 80% doesn't sound encouraging......I wonder why this retrograde thing happens and how the semen goes....for lack of a better word, backwards?treynor33 wrote:those stats are way off....more like 80% vs 4%.
