I am told around once a day is the optimum ejaculation frequency to keep the prostate & surrounding structures healthy. Is that true? Every time I ejaculate,my symptoms wane for few hrs to a day.
The urologist believes one needs to clean up the tubes to expel any inflammatory chemicals, whereas AHIP argues we need not overdo it.
Even if there could be short-term benefit, would over-ejaculcation (like once a day) aggravate the condition? Wouldn't there be lot of activity in pelvic musculature, at ejaculation. Would this be normal/healthy?
I just started PT, 15 min of internal work, don't see any change in symptoms. Resting tension = 15mV
Thanks

Everyone is different on that.....for me about once every 3 days helps....more frequently or more than a couple of times a day becomes troublesome. There are definite times when it relieves almost all sysmptoms immediately and other times when I over do it that it brings them on for a day or two. IMO, once a day is too much....
You have to kind of feel your way through it and find the right tempo for you....

Irony
But the irony of this condition is that the physical discomfort encourages a man to ejaculate far more frequently than normal because he wants to release the overwhelming tension in the pelvis. When I was symptomatic for years up to 2002 I would masturbate or have sex several times a day in a vain and ultimately destructive attempt to"clean out my pipes" as more than one well meaning but absolutely ignorant urologist told me.
If you need to ejaculate more than once a day, then you just are not doing that one right! Thank god for "A Headache in the Pelvis" and this site.
Be Well,
Robert

Be careful of the "expelling inflammatory chemicals from the prostate and surrounding structures" argument. Must of this has been proven to be worthless. If you have pelvic myoneuropathy from trigger points and muscle tension, you don't need to expel many chemicals and your prostate probably isn't even involved in your pain. Sex daily can relax some muscles, but it could also seriously strain them and worsen your symptoms too (that's what it did for me). Also, if you have a lot of other trigger points and sore spots, you may experience flare-ups that have nothing to do with sex, and therefore you will misinterpret those in calculating your need for sexual frequency. So be mindful of your condition, and you'll find the right balance.

pelvic tightness v/s prostate
How can one be sure that it is pelvic myeneuropathy v/s prostate inflammation, with just DRE and pelvic muscle assessment?. My prostate seems fine, per the urologist; however pelvic muscles are very tight. PT confirmed the diagnosis re:pelvic muscles, they hurt as soon as they are being touched. Is this information sufficient to say that the pelvic tightness is causing the urinary and pain symptoms.
Heating the pelvic area with a pad/warm water bottle helps.

Re: pelvic tightness v/s prostate
To put it bluntly, JerseyGuy, no one can currently tell you if it is a prostate problem or a muscle problem. In my case, both the muscles and the prostate are irritated, and I don't think we can separate the prostate from its environment for this syndrome.jerseyguy wrote:How can one be sure that it is pelvic myeneuropathy v/s prostate inflammation, with just DRE and pelvic muscle assessment?. What I tend to promote is treatment of the muscles, because it works for me, and because my brother did not start to improve until he stopped worrying about nerve damage and started stretching his muscles.
Take RobertPagan's case. As he pointed out, while he was in a cycle of trying to void the 'poisons' his muscles just stayed irritated.
So you need to use your best judgement and monitor not only short term effects of ejaculation, but also medium term effects.
But since ejaculation does some muscle stretching, why not compare the effect of ejaculation, with say, some stretches promoted on this site, and see if they help at all?
This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

The odds are your prostate is normal. Inflamed, irritated, maybe. But it is probably not the source of your problems. CPPS, according to stats cited on the home page, is mostly caused by muscle dysfunction, trigger points, and muscle tension. If your doctor touched your muscles and caused pain, then that's a sign. If you choose to ignore it, that's up to you. But don't spend a year delaying treatment while you chase down phantom problems with your prostate. If you want to pursue that course of investigation, then don't do it exclusively. It can't hurt to stretch, do some relaxation, and get some therapy. Then, at least, you haven't wasted any time.

all you can handle
I had a doctor in Forest Hills Queens actually write on a prescription pad "all the sex you can handle" as a cure to my "boggy feeling" prostate.
Then he gave me some free levaquin. This was a guy with 30 years experience. God help all of us.
