Tender rear -- possible effect of prostatitis?

Post by Jericho »

Nearly at the beginning of this year I was diagnosed with prostatitis. I made a post here asking about the dreaded "golf ball" sensation and was told it likely wasn't my prostate I was feeling, but rather my muscles. It got better, much better, and I didn't worry about it much anymore.

Lately I'm having a somewhat different problem and wonder if this too is an effect of prostatitis. My left ass check, at the crack mainly (pardon my lovely descriptions) is now often tender, particulary near the anus. It reminds me of the golf ball feeling, except it has ventured out to this other region. The other side of my rear is fine, but the left sometimes is relieved by sitting on a pillow.

The question... have any of you experienced anything like this and might it be kin to the golf ball sensation? Or is this a new beast entirely? I'll eagerly await any replies.

thanks,
Jericho

I get that with my CPPS. The pelvic floor extends out through the anus, and is attached to all those muscles in and around the anus. I massage these with my Theracane. Start doing some stretching and light massage in the area, and maybe your problem will lessen.

Thanks for the reply! This Theracane interests me. Uh where would you use it to relieve the rear end? Yes, I need to research it!

Basically, I use it around the anus 360 degrees. This gets some of the key spots in the perineum, as well as the outer reaches of the pelvic floor (the muscles just outside the anus). I don't know how much I've improved things in pelvic floor with the Theracane, but I've certainly removed a few key trigger points in the perineum and it's been a life-saver for my abdominal trigger points.

Mike summed it up. As reinforcement-->my gluteus muscles, from the sacrum all the way up to near my lower back, can tense up and get as hard as a rock when my symptoms are flaring. Pushing on them near the top of the butt produces a golf-ball sensation in the rectum. When that sensation is at its worst, my 'crack' :P gets reddish and shiny as it is stretched tight by all the pulling tissue. It gets irritated. I can imagine someone having pain there.

Have you checked for a rash? Just checeking.

Think of the anus as like the 'center of a flower' with many muscles down there connected to it. More accurately, the back of you anus connects to your tailbone, and the front connects to a ridge that goes forwards a ways. It all comes together like a basket down there.

"The anus bone connects to the crack bone, and the crack bone connects to the ... "

This was my favorite post ever. Losts of fun words to use. :-D

* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.
