G'day guys,
I'm 25 years old and have had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome since roughly two years, but I have been mostly trouble free since a year ago, thanks to consistent meditation, relaxation and trigger point therapy.
Pain free that is 'til until a month ago when I I slept with the wrong girl and I started getting all my pain back (pain when urinating, lower back pain etc). I got an infection diagnostized )chlamydia) at the uro which I was given Doxycyline for 10 days for, which helped but I still had pain so though even though the cultures now were negative he prescribed 10 days of Cipro.
I have now taken the 10 days of Cipro, which helped me, but since I stopped taking them (2 days ago), the pain has returned again!
So, I'm a little bit unsure if I should try to arrange a new meeting and ask for more abx and/or a new sample/swab (they were negative the last time after the Doxycyline), or if I should head for the conclusion that the infection simply "activated" all of my pain sensors/trigger points/whatever, but the infection is gone. I'm having some difficulty with the theory that the infection is gone since I have got a low grade of fever (37,5) since I stopped the Cipro, so I donät know what to believe, though to me it feels like 10 days of Doxycyline and 10 days of Cipro should cure a chlamydia infection.
What's your take on this guys??
(I am a little bit pissed of at the girl either way since a lot of my progress was "wasted" and I have to start again, though I now now that within 3 months of hard work (relaxation, trigger point therapy) I can be back again almost pain free!)
Cheers mates,
Jack

Having an elevated body temperature does not necessarily mean that you have an infection. There are numerous inflammatory conditions that are not infections that cause elevated body temperature.Jack wrote:I'm having some difficulty with the theory that the infection is gone since I have got a low grade of fever (37,5) since I stopped the Cipro

Not sure why he gave you Cipro, useless for chlamydia. If the tests are negative, there's no more infection, just accept it. Yes, this experience could reactivate muscular spasm. Back to work beating those TPs again!

Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

From what I know (not nearly enough), the Doxy ought to have done it. Going to Cipro sounds like a weird choice after 10 days of the Doxy. I thought "normal" was seven days. In either case, Doxy or Zithromax are 95% effective against it. I would bet you're not in that other 5%. I'd have to agree with the above posts. (trying to add strength in numbers here for ya!)
Hope you start getting some relief soon!

Clarification & new input welcome!
Good on ya, I needed some reassurance; it's one thing to have negative tests but I have found out (through my own experience two years ago) that I couldn't fully concentrate on relaxation until I had put all those "mysterious infection" theories aisde!
However, I have a theory that a lot of cases of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome start w/ an infection that is resolved, but the infection has activiated all these pain mechanisms in the body/brain, so the pain stays with you and you end up believing that you still have an infection (even though all your tests now are negative.); similar to what just happened to me now. What do you think?
(Btw, since Gegatso wondered: the standard prescription time for a course of antibiotics where I live is 10 days, hence my prescription of 10 days on Doxy & Cipro. I have read that prescriptions in the US generally are for 7 days)
Cheers,
Jack

Re: Clarification & new input welcome!
Oh Jack - speaking of Cipro.. I just had to end an *almost* 6 week course of it. (BTW, I HAD to take the damn stuff because my problem involved some serious discharge...thankfully the Cipro fixed that at least) Back to my thought...I had to pull the plug on the Cipro 3 days before hitting a full 6 weeks because the side effects were getting to be too much. I actually had no problems a year ago when I had to do the same thing with Levaquin, ironically. This time not so lucky...I have to fight off a yeast overgrowth now (antifungal liquid 4x/day for a week). Bad cracks at the corners of my mouth, white gook covering my tongue, and who knows what's on the inside. I'm tossing in acidophilus for help, too. I have a strange thing going on with my face as well...SUPER dry skin almost all over my face and a few patches of skin are rough and scaley! The pharmacist said Cipro can't cause this. I can't find any info on it online, so I feel screwed. On top of that, I fractured a finger a week ago, making any work with my hands a pain in the butt..and then (yes, the bad luck keeps coming!) my back went out two days ago and the pain is ridiculous!!Jack wrote: (Btw, since Gegatso wondered: the standard prescription time for a course of antibiotics where I live is 10 days, hence my prescription of 10 days on Doxy & Cipro. I have no idea what to do...it is very hard to relax now, the stretches are out of the question until my back heals (and my finger for a few, too). I'm clueless as to the facial rash and dryness. Talk about a rough pile of bad luck.
I'm sorry..I just needed to vent somewhere. Things were starting to look up for a bit and I was even backing off on the Urised/Usept (my biggest problem being burning urination)...I was even considering backing off the Baclofen - my goal of course to be off ALL meds. Now I just feel screwed.
Sorry to steal away any attention from your original post, Jack. I hope you're feeling some relief.

See my initial post. chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome set off by a real infection but I ran the antibiotics thing to the point of damage to myself. Like the replies state, it was probably cured shortly after the initial infection. Thank god I found this board in time.
