I've just received a Theracane obtained to help me with my sore shoulders. I have a "frozen shoulder" on one side and a sore shoulder on the other, and I was intrigued that one of the pioneers of Trigger Point Therapy, Clair Davies, cured his frozen shoulder with TP work.
It's totally unscientific to make comments so soon of course, but my impression after just one session is that the shoulders are remarkably less painful!
I'll keep you all updated.

Mm-mm! Love this damn Theracane thing! I find myself using it every day, sometimes twice a day. I will not lie to you though: the initial reaction to my pressing of the numerous TrPs I found in my back and shoulders was intense, and baaaad! At first you feel an amazing sense of relief and release, but a few hours later the TrPs regroup and counter-attack! I couldn't sleep with the pain it caused. But with each passing day the TrPs are subsiding a little, and now it is sweet satisfaction to whip out my 'Cane and get to work on those slowly dying, "hurts-so-good" knots in my back.
Warning: I think, based on my experience with my back and shoulders, that intense TrP treatment in the pelvis can cause a major flare up in the beginning. Anyone doing this must be warned very clearly.

Personally, I think the Theracane has done more for me in my recovery than any other therapy, and that includes the stretching, the relaxation, and professional PT. The Theracane cost me $35, and it single handedly allowed me to work through perineal trigger points that had stopped-cold my sex life. I don't know where I'd be without it. It has also practically ended my horrible testicular pain, as the trigger points for these were located in my abdominals and the Theracane seems like it was destined for abdominal work. It is so well suited for abdominal work that I think there is a gene sequence in our DNA that will eventually be growing a Theracane in a thousand years. That's just evolution.

I saw a rheumatologist about the shoulders last Friday and he gave me steroid injections (depomedrol 80mg) into each shoulder. Amazingly, it calmed the vague pains I was having in my knees and other joints too! Powerful stuff. However, the one shoulder is still painful, so I'll discuss that with him when I see him on Friday to review the extensive blood tests he ordered for me. At the moment I suspect it's Shoulder Impingement Syndrome, which is not really treatable with the Theracane.

Well, at the very least, you can hit someone over the head with it if they misbehave. If it hasn't been used in a martial arts movie yet, I'm sure it will be. I shudder to think what Jackie Chan would do with the thing...

I finally got my Theracane last week and i've been experimenting with it somewhat - I have been aware of abdominal tenderness for some time and so was interested to see what results I could get with the Theracane - Using it for the first time I was able to create significant pain from the pelvic region right up to around my heart! There was one spot nowhere near an artery or anything like that that when pressed gave me a very tight chest feeling! needless to say I went easy there but have managed to work that out a bit.
I do have a question regarding an area just above my pubic bone on the left hand side - If I lean back slightly to tichten the abdominals and get better access I can palpatate an area that appears to have a ligament or something running through it - I thought it might be the inguinal ligament however this seems to be horizontal accross my abdomen rather than diagonal into my groin. I can gently massage this area and it hurts like heck! Anyone else noticed things like this ?
thanks
