Treating Abdominal TPs?

Post by GARYS »

I have finally been able to get my wife to massage my abdominal muscles, but I'm not sure she is doing it right. We have 2 young kids, and when I can get her to do it, she more or less just pushes in for a split second and moves to a different spot (she wants to get it over with ASAP. My question is, do you need to push in and hold these sore spots? Would these second long pushes be any good at all? Also I have also been getting abdominal discomfort a lot lately, like the muscles are really tight, and I used to always have a very strong stream while urinating and now it seems to have slowed down. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Gary

I think you should buy a Theracane pronto. It's the best abdominal massaging tool I've used, and it makes it EASY to do it yourself. Save your wife for any internal work if need be. You can do the abdominal massage yourself in front of the TV. And YES, you need to go slow, and hold down on the spots for a long time, making the Theracane an even more important tool.

Thanks for the response Michael! I had her do it harder and longer last night, and this morning at work my hamstrings were sore. They are usually tight, this was more of a soreness (not sure if it was from the treatment). One more question, should I get treated every night. I have 2 editions of AHIP but havent had any time to really read the third edition.
Thanks

My PT says to give yourself a break between sessions. I like to do 1-2 days on, 1-2 days off for the abdominals. More breaks for the internal work. That way the muscles can heal. I think it also depends on how sore you are.
