I've been undergoing internal trigger-point therapy for about nine months, and in that time, I've experienced a reduction in the severity of the internal trigger points (and parallel reduction in chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms) from mind-blowingly painful to mildly uncomfortable. So far, in other words, so good.
The problem is, I can tell there's one remaining internal trigger point that's still unresolved, and it's located beyond the reach of my wife's finger. Using a foreign object about the size and bluntness of a finger, I did a little probing and managed to identify the location of the trigger point. It's exactly 4 1/2 inches up the rectum.
Is anybody else experiencing this problem of having a trigger point too high up to reach? And is there any problem with me treating it myself using a plastic handle or whatever else I can find that resembles the shape of a human finger? After nine months of trigger point, I know what properly administered trigger point feels like--and know the intensity of how hard to push. But I've never had any trigger point that far up the rectum and don't know if I'm getting into some delicate anatomical realm.
Just how durable is the rectum when undergoing trigger point--particularly higher up in the rectum? I read another post indicating that external trigger point administered to the abdomen does no harm to the intestines, because the abdomen consists of multiple layers of muscle that protect the innards. Does the same thing hold true with the rectum? Is it basically muscle in there, or can you easily injure it through too-vigorous internal trigger point therapy--especially higher up in the rectum?
