When I first was diagnosed with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome my primary symptoms were urinary urgency and frequency, it felt like I had to go all the time. There was also a poor stream and hesitancy when first starting. Those symptoms lasted the first several months then slowly started to go away. I thought, wow, I'm cured! Unfortunately as the peeing all the time disappeared, a much WORSE symptom took its place: PAIN. Now, after I pee (never during), I end up with for the next hour a sharp stinging pain at the tip of my penis. The intensity of the pain varies throughout the day but it's always started by peeing (for example, when I wake up in the morning I have little or no pain).
Has anyone else had this strange progression of symptoms? Is it possible all that peeing the first several months did something to my urethra? My urologist just keeps saying the pain is really coming from my pelvic region and not my penis. I'm just wondering now that the frequency issue has gone if the pain issue represents some other problem.

Referred pain from the levator ani. I never had the frequency, but had the pain that you are talking about, that was always heightened immediately after urination. It's a classic symptom. Read "A Headache in the Pelvis", and look into following the protocol described.Wolf wrote:My urologist just keeps saying the pain is really coming from my pelvic region and not my penis.

Yeah, thats a pretty common symptom.
I don't usually get that pain from peeing, I ALWAYS get that exact pain if I use my muscles to hold back ejaculation. Fun for prolonged sex. Very very bad for penile pain afterwards. I don't recommend you try it, but I think it would help convince you that muscles are involved.
Crap, had to edit because I forgot to answer your question. I had bad penile pain during the first month or so. Then it went away for a few months. It came back about 6 months into my progression. It was exactly as you described, post urination. This lasted about a month. I was actively stretching using the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol at the time it came and went.
It came back a few days ago. (1.1 years in) But it is not as strong as it was before, so progress can be had.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

I had the exact same pain when this hit me in November. It went away for awhile, but recently it has returned (not as bad as before). I find that I get issues of a very very mild burning after urination. It takes time to go away. Granted I stopped the any accredited quercetin product for awhile (had some other issues on Elmiron), but I have started it again and I think that will help again.LightningTree wrote:Yeah, thats a pretty common symptom.
