Stem Cell Research

Post by kevin »

With the recent law passed in Massachusetts, I know it's controversial, but I'm curious: does stem cell research hold any promise with CP/CPPS/IC and related conditions?
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.

Well first of all, in order to actually cure people of this, doctors will have to come to grips with what actually causes pelvic pain. For decades they insisted it was a malfunction of the prostate, and proceded to pump antibiotics into us for non-bacterial infections. Heck, maybe they still do...? I wouldn't know. (I haven't seen a doctor for my condition in 4 years.)

Personally I don't believe stem cells could possibly treat CPPS....since chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome has a muscular and/or psychological origin. I think bad physical habits cause pelvic pain. The key is reversing those habits.
