I have been taking .5 mg of Xanax for my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms and usually it helps on bad days. Out of the blue, my doctor suggested I switch to Ativan, but didn't really explain why. Has anyone taken this drug? Does it somehow stay in the system longer? I know all of these drugs are habbit forming and I'm already a little freaked out by taking the .5 of Xanax. I was just curious if fellow sufferes had any experience with Ativan.
Thanks,
Steven

Re: Ativan?
Do a forum search for "Ativan" or its generic name, "lorazepam." Xanax and Ativan are very similar short-acting benzos, but your doctor is lowering the dose of your benzodiazepine treatment: .5 mg of Xanax = 1 mg of Ativan.
This is not medical advice. Please consult your physician.

The only thing I can remember about my one experience with Ativan is... well... I don't really remember. They gave that stuff to me through an IV and the next thing I knew, my wife was taking me home from the hospital... I may have robbed a bank during that time but I can't remember although I'm sure I was relaxed during the whole time. I think it's powerful stuff. :)
