In the beginning of this condition, I was scared off of internal treatments (which have been a godsend) because of all the warnings urologists gave about contracting sepsis (I don't even know what that is) and other infections from doing PT. They scared the crap out of me (no pun intended). I was sure that if I even reached near my rectum, I'd puncture something and cause hemhorraging.
From my time on this board, I've seen hundreds of posters describe self-administered internal work, or had their spouses do it for them. How many of you have EVER had any of the problems we've been warned about by all the urologists who've never heard of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome or who don't condone the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol.
It's my guess that the instance of these self-inflicted infections is extremely rare. I would bet that more of us have pulled back muscles doing this than actually infected ourselves. It's funny that they warn us against doing this even though the chance of infections occurring is remote, yet they will prescribe oodles of antibiotics even when there is no evidence that they are needed. And of course, even if someone DID get an infection by doing self-administered PT, what's the treatment? More antibiotics. So they tell us not to do it so we won't need antibiotics, yet they will then prescribe them anyway for unnecessary purposes.
So who has had an infection or hemhorrage, and what did you have to do about it?
Michael

Sepsis: The invasion of the bloodstream by virulent microorganisms from a local seat of infection accompanied especially by chills, fever, and prostration; called also blood poisoning.CppsDad wrote:In the beginning of this condition, I was scared off of internal treatments (which have been a godsend) because of all the warnings urologists gave about contracting sepsis (I don't even know what that is)

I have had goodness know how many internal sessions by goodness know how many individuals (8 at the last count!) including PT's; Uro's; my GP and my partner and have never had a problem.

Current | Symptoms: Urinary frequency 1x every 2-3 hrs and 1-2 x a night; mild pelvic pain on left hand side (all symptoms still improving!)
Helped by: Trigger point release; avoiding exercise; pelvic floor relaxation; Neurontin decreased bladder sensitivity somewhat. Worsened by: Exercise; frequent ejaculation; ibuprofen irritates bladder. Made no difference: Diet; biofeedback; quercetin; Steroid anti-inflammatories; Elavil.

It all seems like scare tactics to me. I just haven't heard one mention of any of these things on this forum, and I know our group is doing more internal work than any other chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome group. I know these are serious conditions, but to prevent people from helping themselves by scaring them unnecessarily seems unfair.

Sounds like a case of scare tactics aimed at retaining a client, er.. patient.CppsDad wrote:In the beginning of this condition, I was scared off of internal treatments (which have been a godsend) because of all the warnings urologists gave about contracting sepsis (I don't even know what that is) and other infections from doing PT.
